When i first saw the thread on the NASA forum i got excited. Then i realized that the TT specific rules are not up yet. Probably nothing to get all concerned about, but id rather wait for them to come out before i can party!

Reading in general FTW.....

The 2008 PT Rules and Car Classification Forms are now available for download on the NASA Rules page http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules.html

TT competitors may use the PT Rules to class their cars for 2008, as the classing rules are identical. TT Rules will be posted ASAP, but there a few TT specific items that are pending approval (Team rules will be changing to a format much more similar to the team rules for racing in the CCR), but these items will not effect the classing of the vehicles.

Base classing for 2008 and late 2007 vehicles is pending still, and will be completed ASAP. Unless your 2007 or 2008 model is specifically listed by year, do not assume that the base class will remain the same. If you have one of these vehicles, please send me an e-mail so I can place that model as a priority.

TT = Time Trial
PT = Performance Touring

PT is wheel to wheel racing, whereas TT is not.

Any reason the 03' is not listed in the PT or TT (6.3.2) Base Classification Table?

"Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII ('04-'05)(AWD) TTC** 3263"

Possible to request a separate base classification line between the non-flsd/ viscous center diff 03'-04' (non-RS) and the flsd/ ACD 05'? The 05' also came with a 5-hp bump and the 10.5 hot-side.

It's also interesting they are separating the 05' MR from the 05' GSR/RS based on the 6-speed (I assume).

They did it.

NT01 is +7
RA1 is +5

TIRES:
1) DOT-approved R-compound tires with a UTQG treadwear rating of 40 or less (ex. BFG R1,
Hankook Z214, Hoosier R6 & A6, Kumho V710, etc.—note: G.A.C. Hoosiers OK) +10
2) DOT-approved R-compound tires with a UTQG treadwear rating of 50 to 130 (ex. Kumho
V700, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Nitto NT01, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Toyo R888,
Yokahama A048, etc.—note: see exception below in 3)) +7
3) Toyo RA-1 and Nitto NT555RII +5
4) Non-DOT-approved racing slicks +30

Proof that NASA agrees with just about everybody else. NT-01 is a better tire than RA-1.

I looked through and it was mostly tied to modification of OEM track width. I didn't see anything specifically limiting wheel offset or the amount of camber you run. Did I miss it?

I guess NASA has a very different view of the BFG R1 than Redline, which lumps the R1 together with the RA1, NT01, etc. as legal in Modified Class (unlike the Hoosiers, V710s, etc.).

I asked about the R1, so did someone else, in the Redline rules discussion thread. However, no one has responded yet. Last time i checked, the R1 has a UTQG treadwear rating of 40. So i dont know why Redline is allowing them in the Modified class, when their rules stipulate that the Modified class is limited to a minimum UTQG treadwear rating of 50.

Question, are the tire sizing rules for PT the same as TT? For example, it says the max width for PTA is 295, is that the same for TTA? If so, if I were to run a 265 in TTA would that mean I could knock off 7 points for running 30mm smaller than the max? If so, then I may be able to compete in TTA instead of TTS.

The rules regarding tires for PT are the same for TT. Mike, theres more to your question than how youre approaching it. Dont think of it as maximum or minimum. Every class has a base tire size. You can run whatever tire in whatever size you want, however, the amount of points you take for tires is determined by your base class. Question: You have an Evo 9 right? If so, are you running the oem Evo 9 turbo? If yes, then your base class is TTB. Even though you want to run in TTA, you calculate your tire points based off of your base class. For example, if you want to run 265 RA1s, you would take a +5. If you want to run 255 RA1s, you would take a +4. Let me know if you have any other questions.
