Fire extinguisher mounting location?

So, any of you guys carry a fire extinguisher and have it mounted in your car? Is there any tech spec regulation as to where it can and should be mounted?

I found this guy making a mount, not sure if its available and it is expensive.

I wonder what most of the motorsports guys did and where they mounted it?

I also found this trolling teh intrawebz...

Thats about the size and kind I was looking to get to keep in the car. Better to be safe than sorry...

Thanks!

You want to be able to reach it without unbelting.

If your able to reach the clips and fandangle it out of that position without unbelting a harness then you ain't in tight enough I'd personally mount it vertically just behind the center console - far enough away that in a missed downshift your elbow doesn't strike it - but close enough that you can reach it with your right arm and pull it up/out/forward.

In the case that your using standard belts and don't have any bars back there, then that seems like as good a place as any I suppose. I personally wouldn't want it anywhere near my feet when i'm doing aggressive shifting/braking.

Good ideas and nice discussion so far...

I agree about the drivers side mounting location.

I have an autopower 4 point and sparco 5 point camlock setup. I like some of the mounts that attach it to the rollbar, but I don't want the sucka flying off due to a mount failure...LOL

What about on the passenger side of the middle console? You could have the bracket screwed into metal plates that you would put behind the plastic so its nice and sturdy. I mean sandwich the plastic between the exstinguisher bracket and a metal plate.

I had Mike@Sublime make it for me a few years ago. That RDD piece looks strikingly similar, but the price seems reasonable.
