resuscitate old, hard tires????

I just bought a track car and it comes with a couple sets of wheels and tires. (some old school azenis and some old victoracers).

I am sure the tires are hard as bricks by now, but I don’t want to spend more money right now on more tires. How do I soften them up? Bleach? Olive oil?

Any ideas????

Use at your own risk. This stuff is caustic, carcinogenic, and flammable. Rubber gloves and a mask are a minimum precaution, a respirator is preferred.

I may have overstated the risks a little... but seriously, wear gloves and make sure you're in a well ventilated area.

Anything you use to soften tires will be some nasty stuff. To do its job it has to be able to eat rubber.

Traction V is another "remedy". I tried on on my Formula Ford slicks as a test. Treated year old slicks 4 or 5 times in the Spring. Took 'em to an event and an them in the morning. didn't work too bad I thought. Slapped some new Hoosiers on and went 2 seconds faster. Oh. Guess not.

Run the crap out of them and save for new ones.

Didn't track it. Autocrosser. We're a bunch of cheap bastard that try to find ways to make tires last. No sponsors, winnings, .... all out of pocket. I was more curious than anything. I bought 4 sets a year, and if I could save one, that was $1,200 in my pocket. (shrug)

I budget x dollars for HPDE.

the car was more expensive than I wanted, so I will be making do with the old tires for a while.
