Getting race tires to the track

Has anyone put a trailer hitch on their Evo yet.

I need to know where they got it or if they had a custom hitch made.

I'm sure you're aware that the owner's manual says no towing for the EVO. But also take a look under the rear bumper, I don't see how a standard hitch would work without cutting into the rear bumper, which I'm assuming you don't want to do. Here are the only alternative options I can think of at this point.

Buy a cheap truck and trailer and tow it to the track w/ the race tires already on the EVO, it would actually pay for itself if you're racing every weekend, and could come in really handy if something bad should happen at the track. Obviously this is an expensive alternative that you probably wouldn't consider.

Buy a thick king size blanket, like a quilt (go to goodwill) and lay it over the back seat and the floor. I've had no problems fitting four wheels in the back seat of the EVO and with the plastic backs to the front seats they are really easy to clean.

Consider a removable roof rack for the EVO, but find out how much weight it can carry, then buy one of those carriers for it that will fit the four tires as well as all the other crap you end up always bringing to the track, this way you have a locking container in the parking lot, and it will save your parking spot.

Good luck in your decision.

Can you fit a tire or two or three in the trunk?

I have not looked that closely at an Evo's rear bumper, but hitchweb.com carries a hidden hitch that I use to tow a small trailer for tools and tires with my OZ. You have to drill the holes and it attached to the center tie down hook so I imagine it could be adapted to fit an Evo. You can't see it when the slug is not in it unless you are looking for it. If I ever get a digital camera...

I have not weighed my whole set-up together, but the individual components only add up to about 400-425 pounds. I know that the warranty is an issue here, but if the OZ can tow 1000lbs., surely the Evo could handle at least that.

Thanks Trbo Dad. I ordered a hitch yesterday from a place that told me the Lancer hitch would work. I just called them this morning to cancel my order.

From the link you gave me, I emailed the guy who is making them to see if he is ready to start selling his hitch.
