Trackday Spa Francorchamps
Trackday Spa Francorchamps
Well after going to the 'Ring yesterday, today was my trackday at Spa Francorchamps.
Words cannot describe how beautiful this track is. Besides a little over 20 total laps at the 'Ring this was my first official trackday. I'm not sure how HPDEs are run back home but this one was top notch. No more than 50 cars allowed on the track at a time, free instructors, and we were able to use the F1 pits.
I pushed myself and car the furthest I ever have today and I am absolutely amazed at the performance of a pretty much stock Evo. Even on mediocre Kumho MXs grip was everywhere. I had a slight problem in the beginning with brake judder but that went away after 2 sessions and my Hawk HT-10s held up all day with no fade. I understand now when people talk about tires getting 'greasy'....
All in all a great day and if I wasn't hooked on tracking my car before I am now. A few pics

So wait, not only did you get to drive the Ring, you also went to Spa? Are you joking me... I hate you! You have done what I can only ever dream of doing. Now get to Suzuka and you have driven on the three best tracks in the world, hands down!
I'm so jealous... I hope you really enjoyed it and took it all in. Thats an awsome feat.

Well I'm definitely hooked.
Hopefully more seat time in the near future so I can learn to be in the right gear. Yeah I had a slight problem with that
I almost couldn't tell I was only running 13.5lbs of boost

Congrats on driving on two of the finest tracks in the world. I got to drive 25 laps on the 'Ring last year - albeit not with my Evo. Looking to get out to Spa on my next trip. Now if only I could ship my Evo over there ...

Ok lets be real. Even if I break every traffic law on the way there, and most of the time I do, it takes me about 2 1/2 hours to get there. Which really isn't the problem.
Having to do battle with cars, bikes, and other retards on the track is defensive driving on a whole new level. Putting down a decent lap is nearly impossible and closures every hour don't help.
Don't get me wrong the experience is like no other, but its a different kind of experience. I track my car to try to be the best driver I can be and that place is not where you want mistakes. I know two people that have crashed there and it ain't pretty.

Yeah, I can see your point with trying to put down good lap times. I really hated having to contend with the bikes. For good lap times you'd really need a closed track. But let's face it, the Nordschleife is so big and complex that it takes a long time to really learn all of the sections.
