my mods for autoX??

my mods are tbe, 272 cams, drop in filter and boost controller plus a couple other supporting mods plus a couple extra mods. I noticed when I was up at the SCCA nationals up on devens that no one really used cams....

but as far as the power mods I chose, am I going to have a really hard time out on the autoX course with POS blue streak tires and stock suspension?? What should I do next? coil overs and some good tires?

Cams put you in SM right away. That's why you saw the BSP Evos without cams...

The most important mods are suspension and tires. Your power mods, though typical for a regular Evo, are completely useless for autox. Unless you want to compete in basically the highest class for Evos with all out badass cars, you should de-mod to STU specs and go from there where you can use street tires with minimal power mods. However, you'd still need top-of-the-line 140 UTQG rated street tires and a very nice suspension. It all comes down to what your goals are...

aw damn haha. I wish I could de-mod but whats done is done lol. I cant see myself spending money on the money I already spent lol. (yea thats confusing lol) I'll go ahead and get me some suspension and tires and do the best with what I got. I'm sure it will still be a fun time. If I don't autoX then I fear I may drift away in interest cause drag is boring the heck outta me. my clutch will be in tuesday and if eveything goes smoothly im looking to autocross ASAP and I will get out there. just gotta find a place.

Then you need to go straight to the nasanortheast.org website and sign up for the next HPDE event in your area. This will allow you to stick with what you have now, learn to drive the car to its max right now before its too fast (already is really, but oh well), then move up the ranks as you get more experience. You will have tons more fun, will not have to get more mods right now, and will be able to choose whether you go into competition or not (time trials or wheel-to-wheel racing).

Eh, well you can autox with just about anyone. SCCA has a big region up there, and I'm sure there are others like PCA and BMWCCA. You don't need to do NASA for autox. You won't have nearly as much fun in autox and will have to buy some expensive stuff to be mildly competitive in SM.

if you are new to autox then you probably aren't going to be competitive anyway, so just go out there with what you have done to the car and have fun.

later on down the road, when you start to get experience, you can decide if you want to "take it to the next level" and start modding your car specifically for your class.

A great driver will be able to make a ****ty car go fast. and a ****ty driver wont be able to do anything. before you start doing a lot of work to your car specifically for autox, go out and do it several times to feel out what you need the most. Grippy tires and a good suspension are the best improvements you can make to the car, but they still wont be as big of an advantage as getting the nut behind the wheel tightened first.

AND REMEMBER: you're not racing for money, championships, or high dollar gatorade sponsorships; all you get at the end of the day(IF you win) is a cheap glass and a couple congrats from your fellow racers. Keep the day fun, and dont get too worked up over it. Ask for help. help driving the car, help working the course, and what help you can do for the region. If you're not having fun while autoxing, you're doing something wrong.

Hmm, no, there is money and there are championships involved in what we are talking about (SCCA and NASA).

OK, technically you are correct. I imagine 90% of autoxers out there dont go to nationals, dont go to time trials, cup racing, and so forth and that is what I was talking about.

to the OP: if you get really good, and invest thousands of dollars and time into this "sport" you may get some return out of it. for the rest of us, this is all just for fun and to feed an addiction; and (at least in my region) grow my beer glass collection

I do it "for fun," too, but it's not nearly as much fun unless I'm winning and competing against top talent. I wish I could have fun losing or have fun winning against scrubs, but it just doesn't work for me.

I never get bored watching those guys race out there. seriously ive sat out at almost every autox even for almost the whoollee day for years and i never get bored of it. but i never talked to people, never asked questions or anything. I was just excited watching haha. NOW, I wanna do it. I'd like to become good but I don't know about doing it for money or anything. maybe with time and just the growing skills id develope over the years. I'd suppose maybe one day I'll be decent at it, but it would be purely for the fun.

Then don't worry about suspension and tires for now. Just go and spend a whole season learning how to drive your Evo to the limit. It will be extremely rewarding no matter what class you're in.
