I know that's where I'm going once I break enough stuff in STU. I would kill just to have a good rear diff.

^ you should have left it saying "a TRE rear diff"

I have an extra one. And an extra TRE transfer case. Just got my trans rebuilt by TRE too . . .

At the end of last year my last day driving the car was at the dragstrip shooting for 10's. I had run an 11.000 and REALLY wanted 10's - so I took off the mirrors and taped up the whole car to reduce drag, and then flat-shifted every gear without lifting off the gas. . .

DENIED - never ran any faster. . . but managed to damage the 5th gear synchro in the mean time. Car grinded into 5th every shift after that - so I had Jon work his magic and I should get to drive it with the new gearbox tomorrow if all goes well!!

I'm hoping to have the prep close to where the MR was by nationals.

I still have the Full Race Header, ZZYZX Competitions, and motor mounts; but will probably start out slow with the mods and lower the springs rates to make the car more enjoyable on the street. And then maybe get more aggressive with the setup a month or so before Nationals.

One things for sure, if an Evo doesn't win STU at Nationals this year we all agree to disband and join other classes.
Shhhhhh...everyone be quiet, Chris is back.

I thought you already did (joke) ... What happened to the Miata? Why the change in heart?

donour: Did you ever figure out what that noise was? Worn bushing? Loose spring perch?

I didn't. I pulled out the rear pads and looked at them. They are fine.

There was no noise at the houston tour or during the 2000 mile drive there and back.

EDIT: I also changed all the driveline fluids. No significant metal.

I have a friend who is going to be running 265/35/18 Star Specs on 18x10" wheels at an upcoming autocross. Can someone PM me a general starting PSI range based on what you have found running the 245's? Thanks! (stiffer springs in rear if that matters . . . )

Mid to high 30s, depending on camber and front to rear balance. I think 265/35s on 10s should be able to run a 1- 3 psi lower than a standard STU set-up.

+1

...provided there is enough camber to keep the front wheels sane during steady state. 35psi is a good starting point. 40 is probably too high.

I had my first actual points event today. Beautiful weather in CT (60 and sunny, enough to get a bit of a sunburn) with a huge turnout of about 112 cars. I was pretty consistent all day, focusing more on looking ahead as the day went on.

Results:

35.925
35.466
35.142
35.307
34.568
34.484

Yea, we have a small lot. What can you do? My times were decent and pretty much improving each run.

A missed cone call by a corner worker cost me first in class. It also cost me PAX. I finished "second", but I know I won.

I'll be running with 2 different groups this year and they run on alternating Sundays, so I should be able to autoX every Sunday this year if I want. It should be a great season!

Good running yesterday, and you're right about the missed cone call on the winning STI run. For those who aren't familier with Cart in CT, they run by their own rules, and their classing is a bit different in that they combine all the Street Touring scca classes into one class STA. I was running the ST neon, and was bustin my butt trying to keep up with all you STU guys. I actually liked it as it made for a really good challange, and I plan to be out to more local events this year as it was some good competition. The pax is somewhat messed up with cart though because they make the stock class cars run with 140 tw street tires, or put them in street prepared if they choose to run r comps.

Along with the 2 drivers of the white STI, I was definitely watching your times at the end of the day, Mark. You were really closing in on us in the Neon. Two tenths separated the first 4 STA cars. I'm glad someone else saw the coned run too, so I'm not really a whiny sore loser. I'll admit he was probably faster though, since that was a 33.947 +1 and the best I could muster was a 34.48 clean.

I saw you at the FCSCC rookie school and non-points event too. I'll come say hi at the next event. Plus, I need a new mentor for 2009 since Jeff Guerrera got his FTD and is splitting for Puerto Rico almost all season.
