For your first car: Buy don't build.

My second suggestion is go to specialstage and read read read.

There is a good bit of events near you, go to them, crew for someone, volunteer, ask questions!

There are several threads dealing with this, all of which contain the info you are looking for. Read them through and if there is still something you don't find that you want answered post on this thread and I'm sure we can help.

as far as the question in your first post I would suggest a used rally car, unless you have a really good friend that will help you build it and has the equip to do so at a very cheap rate. Also one with experience in caging, plating and suspension work.
