Bolt-in roll-bar fails

This bolt-in roll-bar failed. Its bolted to the floor. You can see part of the bar sticking out of the bottom of the car. Looking at the last 2 pics, it appears that upon impact the bar and its plate were forced through the floor. In result, the roll-bar failed and the roof collapsed.

And that was just on one of their "high speed touring" aka DE days, i was gonna go too. And this guy could usually drive well, been there for years. Shows ya it can and will happen at any time. That turn 9 is no joke, two of my buddies - one has a X and the other an VIII both lost their rear and backed into that same wall earlier this year. Another victim of The b1tch, glad he turned out ok, lucky. NEVER skimp on the seats, harness, or the cage....EVER.

Oic; it's Hallet. A buncha guys from STL caravaned down there like 2 years ago. I've never been.

I run an Autopower 4pt rollbar. When I mounted it, I put in larger thicker mounting plates to help distribute the weight better. Hopefully it'll hold if if I would ever need it. Cage is in the plans eventually.

I was one of the guys that hit the tire wall in the ***** but my problem was I lifted and the car snap spun so I hit it with my rear. I have no idea what he was doing going straight into the tire wall.

Word to the wise: Never lift in the *****. No matter what.

That's just crazy. The tire wall just looks dangerous.

Hmm... so I was about to pick up an autopower 6pt cage. Obviously one bolt-on cage failing doesn't mean every bolt-on cage will fail.

Very scary looking pictures, very hard to believe the passengers did not get injure, it is good to hear they walked away from that horrible experience.

No it doesnt, I have seen many people buy bolt in cages only to weld them in and then add to them as time goes by....

I went the weld in route, safety is a good thing to have in the back of your head while your going around a track. It may cost more money, but on the other side if you had to put a dollar amount on your life im sure it would be way more than the cost of a cage.

Pretty epic set of pictures. They should have spent more money on safety instead of blue paint. Good to hear they are OK, that thing looks like a pancake. That was a real worst-case impact, but goes to show the importance of proper cages. It needed larger pads and more points of contact.

I'm leaning towards the bolt-in route because even though I don't drive the car daily (train commute to work) it's my only car and having the luxury of unbolting a rollcage for whatever reason (maybe for doing a road trip with passengers in the rear) is a nice option.
