Has anyone tried the new GoPro Motorsports Hero HD camera? I have the older Hero Wide and the video is ok, but the sound it HORRIBLE. Either nothing or all wind noise and crackling. The newer HD ones says it has "Updated Professional Sound". Just wondering if it actually is better, or still a POS?
Also - any improvements on brightness/contrast with the new one? When I mounted the original wide angle one on my roll bar the inside of my car was almost too dark to see and the outside through the front window was nearly all white. . .
Thanks for any input you can provide!

I also have the previous Motorsports Hero Wide. I like the wide angle, but the picture quality is not great. The sound quality is even worse. I posted a thread about this on another forum and given the in-car footage ive seen, im really liking it. The picture and sound quality are significantly better. Its like night and day with the HD version.
i just got it 3 weeks ago
first impression.... omg, what the hell is all these options lol i took the damn manual with me to track to figure out... and i still couldnt figure it out
sound quality.. all depends on where you place it.. good thing with the new Gopro is that they give you 2 back doors.. one is the normal (closed) door that came with the old camera and the new one has vents for better sound.
video quality... 100x better than normal one, even when uploaded to youtube.
IMO.. ur better off buying the suction cup from amazon and mount your own camera.. or if you want to save, buy the suction mount and that mini flip HD. ive seen great track videos with the Flip HD
heres my old non HD go pro

and heres my friend's HD (robert, EvM ID: Deathevn) (my setup was all messed up lol i had the Go Pro take 60 seconds pics instead of video)

Yep, that is my video up there : P That video is was taken with the sealed enclosure, so the sound is horrible. I tried out the vented enclosure on the second day, and the sound is much better. Here is a video with the vented one, camera is mounted in the front grill.

So yes, I'm going to try out more mounting locations with the vented enclosure to see how it sounds.
I recorded all my videos in 720p 30fps. Haven't tried the other resolutions or picture modes. I agree with Ali up there though, bring the book with you the first couple of times you use the camera to sort through all the options.
After finding a decent program to edit it the video, I prefer this one to my old canon cameras I was using for video. The Go Pro HD records in a mp4 container with h.264, uses aac for audio. I finally found avidemux, which would allow me to edit and encode it into something smaller for uploading.

I hate my GoPro... sound quality is awful, but I can deal with that. Picture quality is fine for reviewing lines and studying tracks.
But the ****ing camera shuts itself off after about 10-15 mins, not matter what I do. It doesn't help when the only footage I get is of my warm up laps.

The video from the grill of the car with the vented case sounded and looked really good! Does that vented case come with the camera? I've been looking for something to take video with this year, and this looks like a good canidate.
lotwut, make sure you're using lithium batteries, regular alky or nicad will not last as long. I made that mistake but since I've been using the lithiums I run outta memory space before my batt dies.
I remember reading that turning it off/on all the time will kill the bat, so will using it in colder temps. btw, i like your sn.
maybe I'm just not picky enough but I like my regular old gopro wide. for what it costs I think its a rugged little camera. you have to understand though, you're not going to get theater quality sound from it, but it does take good video.
I like to use mine as a secondary camera. it's usually mounted facing rear, right above the exhaust for HPDE's, or on my fender just above cone level for autoxing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAevzKC4zZY

It's probably coded into the software because of people using FAT32.

The motorsports package does come with the sealed and vented enclosures. Comes with an assortment of mounting arms, sticker things and such.
For memory, a 26 min video in 720p 30fps takes up 1.5gb of space.
For battery life, the most I've used it is four sessions, recording about 25 minutes each, plus a time attack run which is 8-10 min. So that is 110 minutes and no problems on one charge. It is rated for 2.5 hours but don't think I'll see that in HPDEs.
