high rpm shifting

had a difficult time up shifting, lever didn't want to go into gear. it would find the wrong slot though(damn).
is that a fluid issue or ?
I must have missed gear four times and searched for it another four times in a couple hours of driving. 80 degree day, road course, currently amsoil.

didn't matter if it was down the middle of the straight or bouncing around the back nine.

wouldn't find fourth or third without a lot of effort, but as I said, fourth would be closed but second was wide open.....................

it did seem to be related to drivetrain warmth, the first few laps were worse than later.

Mine doesn't like going into 5th above 6Kish. Gotta push hard to get it into 5th down the straights if I'm shifting near redline. All other gears love it though.

I don't think I have a clutch issue. Car seems to act fine when cruising around. trans has less than 60K, clutch replaced at ER about two years ago.
yes, shifting on the track at 7800 or so, into fourth and fifth it doesn't want to find the gate.
looking back, it usually happened on the first lap out, but not every time.

Is there anything to see looking at the cables? But then why only at high rpm.

The 5th gear synchro started grinding a little bit on my VIII at about 20k miles, so I got in the habit of double-clutching 5th. I would even do it on track (road courses).

Try it, you might like it. Once the shifts become 2nd nature they go pretty quick - and they were usually buttery smooth.

How does one reasonably check their syncros?

upon further review... could it be a fluid problem? I realize the car is a little notchy going into gear when the drivetrain is cool, even at low rpm. Or would that just be an indication of trans syncros?

It certainly could be the fluid.

When my 5th gear shift started getting notchy at about 20k miles I started having the fluid changed about every 10k miles. The trans was usually noticeably smoother after a fluid change.
