Where to start out
Where to start out
So, after a post last summer about doing a HPDE, I attended and now i'm rather hooked.
That being said, are there any other opportunities that would be worth looking into to get on-track? I dont really know what to search for specifically, but VIR is about 4 hours from me, and NCCAR is about 2 - although NCCAR doesnt seem to have much going on. So it would probably be better to get multiple days when possible.
I've found the whole HPDE listings for 2011, but being that they are 300+, it would be nice to know of some other choices, like PDX being a 1-day equivilant.
Thanks.

Be prepared to spend some $$ on the good tracks for sure, you won't get into cheap unless you run a cheap track like Roebling, Hallett, or something along those lines. Check out nasaproracing.com for either the NASA mid-atlantic or southeast regions as they both run VIR/CMP areas. There are likely cheaper or longer track sessions with other clubs, but the advantage of Nasa is it's got everything you need to do whatever you want to do with your car on track - Drivers Ed, good instructors, great people, racing, or just time trials. 1 membership covers all that.
The mid-atlantic nasioc.com forum (yes it's for subarus) consistently posts a lot of events for VIR and Summit Point. There are a couple of instructors on there who are routinely at events and offer some instruction.

I'm actually on NASOIC, as i almost bought a STI instead of the evo couple years back. Just waiting for the 2011 thread to show. And i've found decent aggregates of HPDE type events in the entire area.
But the cheaper i find em, the more weekends i can do. Plus its easier to convince others to follow - and i'd save even more if i can split hotels with people.

$100 for a good days worth of tracking. Looks like they have a smallish course (I've never been), but still worth the money in my opinion.
I've done HPDE events with a bunch of different groups at VIR and Summit over the years. TrackDaze has the lowest cost per minute, so they're probably your best bet.
Good guess, i've not been able to make the driftwater events so far due to ******* work needing more time notification than i could give em.
But yeah, i'm definetly going to be trying to go to those, i forget about em til i see it on vadrag.
