Ok, got some more work done last night and today! Last night tam came in and welded the front bars to the main roll hoop, the top diagonal piece was fabbed, and along with the bar across the front was all welded in.

Today, we cut the pads for the main hoop out and dropped the cage down so ram can weld the tops of the tubes.

With the cage down, lance sanded the paint off the a-pillars for the gussets:

And the rear pads are being prepped with the rear seat back getting cleared for the main hoop supports and rear strut bar:

tam, caleb, and lance got a few more things done yesterday. they finished welding the tops of the pipes and raised the cage back up.

the main hoop pads were then finish welded in place (driver side 90% done):

the rear struts are ready for the pads to be welded in place now:

next up are the main hoop diagonals, the rear pads, the rear supports and strut bar. and last will be the X bars for the doors and the gussets for the A pillars. then off to get some paint, interior put back in, and she should be good to go! still a lot of work, but the engine is 95% together in the engine bay, and we will be able to start it wednesday provided the new front wheel bearings come in.

virgil will be putting the axle and brake rotors on tomorrow and completing the engine bay work.

caleb knocked out the rear strut tower pads and welded them in place:

i followed him up with grinding the rear support bars and the strut bar:

the main hoop diagonal, and harness bar were ground to shape:

and the rear diagonal was also fabbed up:

only bars left are the the door bars and the A pillar gussets and the cage will be complete!

got a lot more done on the car today!

Tam came and finished welding all the tubes in the car currently with the help of caleb. just have the door bars and the Apillar gussets to go still.

todd came in and spent the entire day putting all kinds of stuff together. we got the engine completed and fired up for the first time! just had a fun time hooking up the dash harness with no dash for reference.

todd installed his Setrab oil cooler kit:

then he assembled the rest of his brakes, performance friction two piece front rotors and the brake ducts:

tomorrow door bars and we'll see about paint etc...

tons more work done this weekend!!!

to start we finished grinding the door bars and tam and caleb welded them in place:

with all the bars done, we only have the a-pillar gussets, but that is a non-essential item and with our deadline for eagles canyon this coming weekend, we decided to hold off with them (windshield has to come out etc...)

with all the bars done, Todd masked off the glass and primed everything so we can leave it be for a while before painting the interior (after the apillar gussets get put in)

with the cage complete, todd worked on putting the pedals back in, dash bar back in, and wiring harness:

the steering column was also put in so we can position the driver seat.

with the front of car as far as we could get it for the night, todd moved to the back half again. Him and Lance got the rear bumper swapped over to one josh provided. The previous one had been bondoed and painted with house paint

last thing for the night, Todd removed the rear door hardware to cut some more weight out. all the motors and wiring were removed.

and the doors were installed:

only a few things left to do and it should be driving around tuesday!

todd and richard got some more done tonight. the fired up the engine again with the wiring harness back in place, and ran the car for 5-10 minutes. next, they knotched the dash to fit in the car with the roll hoops and door bars:

then todd spent a lot of time with richard fitting the driver seat position. the seat rails are drilled, the rear seat mounts will have to be fabbed tomorrow.

Todd did also mount the passenger seat and the harness for it:

and the shift knob and rear view mirror from my race car are loaners to see if todd likes either:

tomorrow the front brake pads and rear rotors arrive, so it should be on the ground and driving tomorrow night!

tonight todd and caleb got the driver seat mounted!

shortly after we put the drivers doors on and the brakes with wheels and todd drove it around the block!

we put it on the scales to see what it weighs:

almost perfect cross weights right off the lift. its a little light though, we are 140lbs under weight for the class, so we will have to ballast it quite a bit.

More updates!

So after a couple more long night, the evo was ready to get it's first shake downs. We started by dynoing the car to see where we were at.

It certainly has to be the slowest buschur built 2.0l ever It made 230whp with a boost issue, only making 16psi tapering to 12. After inspecting it at the track we found the wastegate arm was unloaded slightly. We will inspect the vacuum lines as well later.

Next was the alignment, because this car was a salvage car we knew it might have some problems Here. We first took it to a local Ntb which didn't help. They aligned it and said it was all good, but by simple observation we could see the driver side camber was way off. My digital camber guage showed it was positive 2 degrees, so about 4 degrees off. We threw it on the lift and saw the previous owner had installed the rear lateral link upside down. We also pushed both front and rear subframes over to the driver side which fixed about 1.4degrees of the problem. Next, Lewisville mitsubishi inspected it for us and showed the front knuckle and rear control arm were bent causing the last of the alignment problems. We decided to fix those later becuase we were wanting to get it finished for the weekend.

Last, todds new hankook rs-3 tires came in and we mounted those on his mr bbs wheels.

Today, Todd took it out to eagles canyon for it's first shake down runs!

It's no Ferrari at 230whp, but it ran flawlessly all day for Todd, who worked his way to hpde 4 do he can shoot for his Tt license tomorrow!

todd took his car out to MSR for some laps with Bret and his viper. Todd said the car handled great, with bret only lapping him 1 time in a 30 minute session

we have some more updates coming as we sort through the list of bugs that need working out. we will have some replacement suspension parts to fix the bent driver side components, have to add more roll bar padding per the rules, check the tune for the loose wastegate actuator that was fixed, and get the car up to the required weight by adding some ballast!

I've been waiting for the day someone runs an Evo 8 in TTC. Cool build guys!

You can thank me for being able to coat the exhaust pieces. I fought and fought with Greg over the ruling for that. The no-points mod previously only allowed for wrapping exhaust parts. Greg claimed if someone sprayed or coated a piece then inspectors wouldn't be able to tell if it was still OEM.

Also, you guys do know that adding A-pillar gussets is +2 right? Personally I would hold off on that and spend those 2 points on something else.
