I don't know if this was posted or not, but this story gives hints on what the Evo 9 may look like.
Can you say "fender flare"?

This is Mitsubishi's new Lancer WRC04, which was unveiled by MMSP at the Essen motor show. Talking points include the unusual looks and its exceptional under-skin simplicity.
MMSP MD Mario Fornaris told evo that he expected rivals to come up with similar solutions to the bi-plane rear wing design 'if they are making a decision from a purely technical view'. The unusual cutaway wheelarches are for brake cooling, as the 04 doesn't have a cooling water spray.
'The road car department in Japan have been asking for the drawings for a long time,' said Fornaris. 'Now they have them - and in some ways the Evo 9 does look like the WRC04.'
'Previously it was the stylists who pushed the the WRC shape - instead I've had a surprisingly free hand.'

The Mitsu guy only said the Evo 9 will resemble the WRC car in SOME ways. I don't like the biplane wing, or the extreme fenders, but I bet the headlights and the wide front styling with bulgier wheel wells could make it to the Evo 9.

That's not a base Lancer. That's the WRC racecar. Do you know what the WRC is? It's why the Evolution exists in the first place.

The WRC car is what exists in the beginning.
The Evolution is based off the WRC car.
The regular Lancer is based off the Evolution.
AFAIK, they don't design a production Lancer and then make it into a WRC car. They probably do take into account that the WRC car will need to spawn off production cars, but I don't believe they let it hamper the design much. If anyone really knows
's WRC car development process, I'd love to hear about it.

- Base Lancer
- Group A/WRC Lancer Evolution
- Street Lancer Evolution
The main thing to remember is that the street version of the Evo has always reflected the Group A/WRC car and the Group A/WRC car has always started from a base Lancer. The street version of the Evo only exists because of the Group A/WRC car and not the other way around. This may be the first WRC car for Mitsubishi though, that will affect the design of both the base model Lancer and the Evolution model. We will only find that out though when the next versions of the street cars are released.
