Raising shifter cage

Looking for some pics of how some people have done this, I currently have a DIY shifter lever that is a little longer and bends to the wheel with an S bend. However this is less than favorable in feel. I am trying to accomplish this, Id like to rasie the shifter up to 3 inches, and the center console will be modified to suit.

Use tubing in 3 inch sections. Then get longer bolts. You will have to relocate some of the electronic bits at the base of the dash to let this work. I will be doing it this way on my race car once I find the time. Oh, and get rid of the center console. It looks cooler that way

I don't understand why people would use an extended shifter lever. It only increase the throw distance of your shifts, therefore increasing the time between shifts.

The longer shifter is nice and close to the wheel. But as i did say lacks in feel. Need to raise the shifter pivot! I saw davek did this. Looking to see a few more pics if i can. Just different angles. Search sucked lol

Sorry, I just realized my post was very vague.

Step 1: Remove 4 bolts holding shifter base to car
Step 2a: Insert four 3 inch tubes between shifter base and car*
Step 3b: Relocate electronic bits that interfere with shifter cables
Step 3: Find/buy/steal 4 bolts that are the same as stock, but 3 inches longer
Step 4: Enjoy relocated shifter!

*I have no idea what size tubing to use off the top of my head. Just find something with a small enough outer diameter to fit and a large enough inner diameter to get the bolts through.

I have seen this done before and it works great. Sorry that I don't have any pictures.

Well there is less dead time where your hand isn’t either on the wheel or the shifter. If you can live without your luxury evo interior, I’d recommend it. it’s cheap and easy to do.

I have a set of risers very similar to those in post #6 that I'm no longer using along with half a set of AMS aluminum shifter bushings. The risers are ~2.875" tall.

This shifter was built by Function First Motorsports. The risers are custom made from plastic with machined weight reduction reliefs. The sfifter is aluminum.
