WRC Round 2: Sweden

Recap:
I think visually this is one of the coolest rally's on the schedule. The high snow banks, patchy ice and jumps made this Rally very exciting. With changing road conditions comes the task of picking the right tire for the section. There was a mix of snow, ice, gravel and mud throughout the weekend. Also important to note that ice tires and snow tires are themselves two very different. Some racers predicting snow for some stages found themselves losing time early on when they should have been on ice tires.

There were several spin outs but for the first few legs of the rally Marco Martin started building a lead. Thankfully (i hate him) he hit a rock hidden by snow that lost him six minutes overall on SS11.

A power-steering failure for Gronholm lead to two spinouts while trying to make up time chasing Sebastien Loeb. He ended up finishing second.

Sebastien Loeb of Citroën ran a nearly flawless rally and won. He has now won the first 2 events of the 2004 season and also became the first non-Scandinavian driver to win the Swedish event. Alot of people were making a big deal outta that, i dont get the hoopla though.

Other Highlights:
Janne Tuohino makes a good showing for Ford.
Both Mitsu drivers did not complete the race (gearbox) reminding us that the new Lancer is still in a development phase.
Accident between Juuso Pykalisto and Harri Rovanpera on SS8
