NJ Race Tracks?

I used to drag race @ Englishtown and I would like to try road/track racing. I found out that NJ has a couple tracks that about an hour south of Englishtown. Watching youtube videos, it seems like a lot of fun.

Has anyone been there and what does it take to get on these tracks?
- How much does it cost/how many runs, how long is the average run?
- Any special rules and regulations? i.e. roll bar requirements, slicks, fire jacket, helmets, extinguishers, etc..?
- How hard is it on the car/clutch/tires?

Thanks

I've yet to be to NJMP, but you can find events at local tracks using motorsportreg.com

If you are in the tri-state area, there several courses within a few hours drive, NJMP, Pocono, Watkins Glen, Summit Point, Lime Rock and Monticello (private but they have opened for public events in the past).

Thanks
Typically you're looking at 250+ per single day or about $400-$500 or more for a two day event. Typical one day events are 4 sessions per run group 20-30 minute sessions each.

For most HPDE's you'll need a helmet and you'll need a pre-event inspection completed and then need to pass a tech inspection once you arrive. No need for roll bars, definitely not slicks as a beginner, safety equipment is always good but you need minimal to begin with. Additionally, as a beginner you'll have an instructor in the car with you.

All in I typically plan for about $800-$1000 of expenses for a full weekend between entry fees, gas, on-track insurance, hotel, food and wear and tear (fluid changes and wear to pads and tires).

^^^ All great info from Corey and it's applicable to the HPDE program with NASA in the Northeast region. The link has good info about getting started.

You'd start in HPDE 1 with an in-car instructor until they approve you for solo in HPDE 2. The Northeast region is currently running a pre-season sale on several weekend events, two of which are at NJMP.

NJMP is a great facility, really fun track. I've only run Thunderbolt there, but it is a top notch track. NASA NE is a pretty good group to run with, and run there regularly on either Thunderbolt or Lightning.

That's a lot more than I expected. I was expecting $200-$300

BMW (delvalbmwcca.org and njbmwcca.org) have great HPDE programs. Also various discounts, ex:

There are also special "first timer" events like mentioned here:

This may also help: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-O...61435127204721

There might be a spot or two open for the PCD CTD event on Feb 26th.

PCA and BMW CCA both hold events at NJMP regularly and they're both pretty reasonable price wise. PCA your looking at $175 for one day, $330 or so for two.
