Anyone added 2nd extra oil cooler

I have a 2.4 ad the extra power is raising my cooling needs for road race. Anyone added a 2nd cooler to OEM? Thought about adding new cooler above driver side radiator? Does this alter pump flow or decrease oil flow rates? Is it better to add single improved cooler?

Have you upgraded the radiator and cap yet? Upgraded the single oil cooler yet?

Personally I think you would be much better off with one larger and more efficient oil cooler than two. An extra oil cooler means that you will have an extra two lines, thus four connections that could be a potential leak point. Between that and the complexity I dont think it is a great idea...

I was thinking same thing after I posted. Less is better when it comes to parts. My research on forum opens up years of oil cooler user haves. Is there a recent upgrade kit everyone agrees on currently? MAPerformance has one got $475???? Dang!

Yes, upgraded Everything else including radiator & cap.

I had really high oil temps with the setrab 25row oil cooler in the passenger side of the front bumper, but I had brake ducting that was stealing air from it. Oil temps in summer hit 280+F using AMSOIL. Radiator is the Koyo Racing Radiator with upgraded cap.

So when I rebuilt my engine, i moved it to the driver side of the radiator, but it oil temps ended up being 290F after one lap in summer heat. This was without any ducting from actually forcing air into the oil cooler.

My plan now is to move it back to oem location and upgrade to a 34 row or a 40 row oil cooler from setrab. Relocate the brake ducting to the air dam or remove it completely. I only do 2-3 hot laps anyways per session.

Thanks killer penguin. Great thread and saved repeating. I am still amazed in 2013 we don't have a 100% agreement and proven set up all racers agree on. After reading the thread, I'm buying MAP replacement kit and might add a pusher fan on front side. Completely agree the oil cooler and IC pipes are in dangerous low locations. Makes sense to mount higher. Reading also got me interested in trans cooler.

Here is my rub. Bought this fully built 2.4 MAP IX RS 600awhp road race car and they did not address these basic cooling upgrade needs! Who does this? They did everything else above and beyond, but left me with $1000 basics (oil & trans). My 400hp bolt on Evo MR from years ago was bullet proof and never had cooling issues. My new IX RS project saw 260 temps (before cooler) during chilly March weather in 12 minute sessions, I am stressed.

Are people talking about PRE cooler temps or post cooler temps? This is important as some cars are set up different. My MAP car reads temps before oil cooler b/c the turbo oil return line prevents from reading temps after oil cooler. Makes no sense to me but that's what I was told. Calling MAP tomorrow for their expensive $475 kit. OUCH.

where are you measuring the oil temp?

the temp in the pan is what matters as that is what the bearings are seeing.

Completely agree. My car is measuring oil temps before the oil cooler. When asked EvoD to change it to after the cooler, they showed me why it could not be done. Something about he oil turbo line???

I don't feel our price is that bad when you consider the only alternative on the market with mounting brackets costs $599

Chris, after further research, I completely agree. I called and spoke with Nate and he provided EXCELLENT service and further education. New MAP oil cooler should be here next week! Thanks.
