Driving Schools

I'm thinking about taking a 3 day driving school. Has anybody tried Fast Lane at Willow Springs? Any other suggestions for a school in Southern Cali?

I think I want to start time attracts next year. I have read some books on track driving and have played racing simulators for a bit. Did my first track day a couple months ago and then another one a month later at Big Willow. I wasn't sure how I would compare but looking at the times of other drivers I realized I'm not that far off of decent times after a few track days. I figure I may as well see if I have the skill to be competitive and taking a class would help me fine tune all the things I have learned.

Thanks

Unfortunately I can't recommend any schools for you. I've been thinking about getting into something like that myself. From my experience and conversations with other drivers, instruction is a good place to start, but seat time can teach you a lot, refining your own driving ability just by lapping.

Yea I think reading and the racing sim helped me a lot but I would like to take it to a new level. Thinking having a structured class will help. I'm leaning towards fast lane since they are at willow springs and price is decent for 3 days. I think a couple grand.

Lapping will help but it's hard to get a lot of that. There are only so many track days.

I bought a DAQ to time my laps and see where I can improve but haven't had a chance to use it. The sim I played had one and it helped to see corner by corner where you are going faster or slower.

Panoz aka SkipBarber is also good. One thing I would add is research more in depth on the class itself. Specifically is the track your doing it on, is it a track that you'd benefit from the detailed analysis because you drive there 90% of the time. And while your there, do they walk the course and do examples. Panoz at road atlanta for example drove you to each corner, got out, and showed you up close where, how, and why this line works here and where the physical markers are. Then you got in the cars right away and drove it with critique, then pulled it all together at the end of the day. Also be sure the cars and instructors match your actual car style. Eg a formula driver and a formula car will be a totally different style from the Evo and thus his or her critique will be off.

Thanks

Yea it's a track I go to a lot. There are actually a few tracks there. A high speed one and a more technical one. They train you on both. I would be using my own car which is cheaper as well. From my research it looks like the best in my area. Can't really be going out of the state.

I'm looking to do it prob June or July. So I have time.

Thanks again.
