Limerock Track Report # whatever

Hi All,
Well, the Evo amazed and shocked all comers again. The track was a wreck, as they are preparing for the ALMS cars to run over the July 4th weekend. West bend was coned off for new paving in such a way that the entry to the corner had to be pinched, but the Evo still managed a 1:01.4 to beat all the Vettes and modified Porsches in the time trial. Amongst my students was a new Evo driver with an 04 car. The leather package is slick! Of course, he threw all of my good training out the window in the time trial and overcharged the corners netting a 1:10.5, but he will be back.
Now for the stuff you guys can use. I ran the car with 9.5" front wheels and 8.5" rears. 275/40/17 Hoosiers up front and 245/45/17's rear. I feel that this tire and wheel combo is helpful with regard to the cars understeering at the limit, combined with the Perrin rear swaybar at full stiff. Here's what you don't know. Virtually every coilover package available on the market for this car is set up with stiffer front springs and shock valving. This is backwards! If OGVW is out there, you are on the right track for sure. The motion ratio for this car dictates a softer front spring. My Tein flexes are currently 9kg front and 8kg rear. I am going to have the fronts revalved for 6kg springs. The tracks in the Northeast are so bumpy that more spring simply isn't required.
The front LSD is still working like a champ, but the brakes are ****. Pad transfer city. In this condition, they cannot be modulated, just stand on them hard or breathe on the throttle to weight the nose. Subtle braking is shake central and I have brake ducting. Will turn the rotors again and try Hawk pads which are alledged to be very clean. Some day I will get around to engine mods, but not until I get the best handling and braking I can out of this car. All in all, every time I put the Evo on track I am amazed at it's capabilities. Provided you keep your right foot down, the car will eventually steer you out of almost any trouble. Very cool.
Cheers,
