Also keep in mind the ZO6's running in T1 are not stock either! Most race prep Z06's are $80K+ cars and are running more than 400 HP. Plus many of the front runners get some extra help from GM. The only way the Evo or STI will be able to compete is if the SCCA allows major changes to the cars.

Interesting that the 300+ hp Cobras were placed into T2 along with the 287 HP 350Z's, but a 271 HP Evo is placed in T1? Not sure SCCA really wants FI.

the S/C cobras are in T2?

SCCA hates FI, because it's so easy to break the rules and so hard and costly to enforce them. Late 80's/early 90's all the FI guys were sly cheating bastards >=). My old nextdoor neighbor worked on a team that ran mk2 MR2 turbo's in the IMSA Firehawk Series. They had all sorts of tricks for controlling the boost in less than obvious ways...

Our best chance for the Evo to be competitive is for SCCA to drop it to T2 or create a 3rd Touring class and spread the car's out accordingly. Two classes for every US performance car is not near enough. SCCAVEE is correct, only major changes will help todays Evo compete with the Z06. Don't forget, there is also the GT3 to deal with in T1.

In all fairness though, the evo and the STi would have OWNED T2. Don't think putting them there was much of an option. I think with the right adjustments (and as Cincy evo said, RAIN!), Touring 1 might be a better fit. Look at the E46 M3's. No hope in hell of winning T1 outright against a competent vette driver, but people still running. Last year at the runoffs, all cars save ONE were corvettes. Hopefully the cost of the evo will add some diversity to the field. That said, I think a properly setup evo may challenge vettes. It defintely will not challenge a well driven vette, but not all vette's are well driven .

Foot note: Only one car othere than a vette ran in the June Sprints

Here are the results for the 2003 runoffs. http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/t1finalrace.pdf

Freddy Baker can usually field a decently competitive 996 in T1.

dapaspy what's your time frame for getting this together?

I trying to run in October at the halloween weekend event at Moroso, but that is looking sticky. I think once I can get the wheels and tires, seat, harness, steering wheel and cage in, I can pass tech and run. I will still need to sercure the exhaust, ecu falsh and other little things, but at least the car can run then.

I was at a lapping day at moroso back in maybe March, there was a rally red there with a cage. Couldn't find the guy, he broke something early, the cage work was pretty good.

Actually two classes is probably too many. The field of cars for T1 and T2 are pretty small fields. Not all cars need to be classified. You also have SSC and SSB which are stricter rules but catch many of the other "slower" cars.

Looking to get everything together by the November meet at Sebring. I had a minor set back in that my transfer case went so I have to replace that but it gives me an opportunity to just get the RS transfer case and experiment with the LSD. So far I have done the following:

New front rotors
Carbotech XP8 pads all around
RSR GT2 exhaust
Kartboy short shifter
RRE no name clutch (ordered)
Evolution 8 RS transfer case (ordered)

The cage and stuff should be going in at the end of October so I hope everything is ready and tested for the end of November. I am having RTR motorsportz build me a custom 8 point cage.
