Sorry, I should have clarified...this is not my car! My Evo is doing just fine. These are pics I came across while searching for pics of Evos on the track.

I could see them when I first posted, but now I get red x's. Not sure what the problem is. Anyway, if you guys are still interested, you can see the pics here:

But I think you'll be disappointed after all this build-up! The car just spun and plowed into the grass banking. There's some damage to the front end...but it's not really catastrophic.

See ya.

Damn, you guys are pretty harsh!

Looks like it wasn't really an autocross.

That's road racing and it doesen't look bad, actually it doesn't look like a wreck, looks more like he tore his bumper off.

Who told you to waste your time? I posted the thing an hour ago and they worked fine. Sorry I don't live in front of my computer and continuously monitor every single post I've ever made.

It's unusual to see pics of damaged Evos and I thought you track guys would be interested.

From what I was told, it actually was an auto-x but it was held on a couple of straights on that circuit. Apparently, the Evo got totally out of control, climbed up the grass banking, smashed into the guardrail, then slid back down the grass. But that wasn't all caught on film.

A smiliar thing happened to the purple pickup truck (you can see it in later pics), but the driver was able to get away without hitting anything.

We used to run autocross events at the Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point in WV. These pictures pretty much sum up why we don't do it anymore. It sounds like a good idea, but you end up with a situation where you just don't have enough runoff room. Since it is an autocross, you don't want the cars going as fast as the road course layout will let them, so you put cones here and there. In the corners, it's not too hard because you just force the line to the inside at the entry and/or exit and that works because if someone has a problem, the car will generally go off to the outside where there should be decent runoff. The real problem is on the straights where you have to put slaloms or offsets to slow the cars down. If a car gets loose there, there is frequently not enough runoff to prevent damage in a spin. Further complicating things is the fact that at autocrosses held on road courses, you are likely to see higher speeds which translates into different handling characteristics than you may be used to from "normal" autocrosses. For example, at the last event we ran on a road course, I struggled because I just didn't feel comfortable in the car because it just didn't feel stable. That was odd, becasue I had always felt more in my element at these types of events. I survived without incident, but later figured out that my rear struts were toast. On slower parking lot courses, the weak struts just were not that apparent. I was lucky, but IIRC, three other cars sustained major damage at that event. Like I said, we don't run there anymore...
