hi,
thinking of a five or six point harness. don't know what to look for, any suggestions? cam or latch, what works simple and quick?
saw a six point today at the track, looks like a good system.

Schroth (as mentioned above) is one of the few (if not the only) brands that are DOT legal, meaning you can wear them on the regular street. If just for racing, there are quite a few choices. Do you need it to be 5 or 6 point for racing you're doing? If so, read the rules and brands such as Simpson and Crow will probably fit the bill. If you just want a good harness to hold you in on open track days, look into Schroth and Top Spin. Cam is nice because it's quicker to get out of compared to a latch. Also, I strongly recommend using a roll bar or harness bar (Sparco makes these) to mount the harness to reduce risk of spinal injury (your spine can be crushed in a frontal impact otherwise).

Actually, he said he was THINKING of a 5 or 6 point. Many people on these forums don't realize that you have to buy special (usually fixed back) seats (the Evo seats won't do) to accomodate anything more than 4 point, so I'm giving him (and any other readers that might be trying to decide) information on both.Originally Posted by SOF

good point,
do have a good seat, but you are wrong about the evo seat and six point harnesses.
willans and others say you can run the two crotch straps under you legs and back alongside the lap belts. pretty neat trick.
since I have the seat for a regular five point may go that way. for now I have to fight withmyself about the roll bar issue.

interesting, so you don't need a crotch hole if you're running a 6 point? but you need it for a 5 point. I never thought about that.
urbanknight,
In all the sales pitches I have been going through, only two manufactures offer that alternative. Willans, supposed to be pretty good, was one of them. I believe it was Schroth mentioned needing two slots for their six point. So it is not uniform.
