Goofy, Any tips for the O2/Downpipe Install?
As the title says. Any special wrenches, extentions, hints, and tips. I should be ordering a full turbo back exhaust from AMS this month and I want to prepare myself for the lovely install of the new O2/Downpipe. I'm guessin' its gonna take an entire weekend for the install. Of course your always welcome to help install it with me!!!!
I second the prepare for broken bolts and have lots of patience and penetrating oil on hand.
I actually didn't break anything when I swapped it out the first or second time. It was the third time that finally did it.

Yes I will be using a lot of penetrating oil the night before (do not take that out of context). I hope to god I don't break a bolt cause this is my daily driver and I got to get to work by Monday.

I thought you had a gubberment car?
Just make sure Denver is on call when you get started on it. If you crack a bolt in the hot side, you'll be having some fun getting that out (been there, done that).

It may be a little late now... but here are a few tips that help prevent bolt breakage... Im always very surprised how many times Im able to get bolts out when Im certain they will break.
1. Patience... have lots of it...
2. Apply lots of penetrating oil, before and during, spray from both sides of the bolt, the goal is to get the oil on the threads inside, that are stuck, I even spray the oil on the joint for the 2 parts the bolt is holding together...
3. as the bolt get hard to turn, start turning 1/2 turn out, then a 1/4 turn back in... dont be afraid to turn the bolt back in a few turns, then start removing again still using 1/2 turn out, and 1/4 turn in..
4. Give the bolts a few hits with a hammer. Hit the bolt like a nail.... a few strong hit now and then can work wonders to loosen things up a bit. It helps stretch the threads and break up any rust or scale in the treads. I usually use a small extension or punch and hit in the middle of the bolt so I dont screw up the hex and cant get the socket back on.
Last... on all the turbo parts, especially the threaded holes on the hot side, once you remove the bolts, before you put things back together tap the holes... do this even if the bolts come out ok.... it will make life easier down the road.

dude fast way to install a o2 housing take out the radiator and exhaust manifold bring everything out so that way you just lay the o2 housing on the floor and wrench away....

Thanks Denver, for the tips.
Goofy, I have to leave the Govt. car in Ft. Worth. I still have to drive the EVO to Ft. Worth to change cars, then drive to Houston. Pain in the a**, but its the law.
After the exhaust, its on to the FMIC and LICP and then the magic tune from Kevin.
