Megan Racing or AMS

I have been lookin, debating, judging, listing pro and cons between the two brands for an exhaust. I can't seem to make up my mind.

Here are the choices:

AMS Single Racing Exhaust

PROS - Great fit and finish, American made, will fit with no issues, dyno proven, light weight, welds are flawless, 304 Stainless Steel, thick flanges, fully bolts (no clamps), etc.

CONS - Price (compared to the Megan Racing)

Megan Racing Drift Spec

Heres some more picks of the exhaust on an EVO X

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-exit-cbe.html

PROS - Great look, bigger fart can, from the pics the welds look pretty good, fully bolts (no clamps), 304 Stainless Steel, thick flanges, looks almost exactly like the AMS except the bigger fart can and the "titanium tip", price, 1 year warranty

CONS - possible sketchy fitment, past horror stories, sound gets louder the longer you have the exhaust

Now for the entire picture:

The Megan Racing exhaust plus the test pipe I can get for 584.00 shipped. Now just the AMS exhaust is 685.00 plus 199.99 for their test pipe. So, I would be saving 300.00 bucks by going with the Megan Racing Exhaust and test pipe. But here is the kicker, I WILL eventually get the AMS O2/Downpipe and obviously there shouldn't be any problems of fitment if I went all AMS. But there might be a risk mating up the Megan Racing test pipe to the AMS O2/Downpipe.

Do I take the risk with the Megan Exhaust and save 300.00 bucks which is 2/3s the way to the AMS O2/Downpipe price. Or should I take no risk and fork out almost 1400 bucks for a full AMS turboback exhaust.

Price of Megan Exhaust + Megan test pipe + AMS O2/Downpipe = $1044.00

Price of full AMS Turboback Exhaust = $1345.00

I knew you would say that. I'm sure I can rub the burn off the burnt tip.

Sure I can:

So taking the burn out, what would you do Sean?

Tough call. I like saving money so I'd think about buying the cheaper one. On the other hand, if others are having issues I might not want to cut corners. But if others have tried it and are doing fine with it, then I'd go for it.

I'd do dual.

But if those are my two choices, I'd take the AMS.

There are others that are doing fine with it. They have no issues. But I yet to see anyone try to mate a Megan Test pipe with the AMS O2/Downpipe, so the fitment is unknown for those two items. I guess I don't want to be the guniea pig.

You can buy cheap parts that MAY fit and are made with lower quality materials or you can buy good quality parts and not have to worry. Doesn't seem like a there is really a choice to be made.

I had a Megan exhaust on my VIII that one of the welds had been poorly executed, and blew through the mid pipe, which caused the metal to embrittle and eventually fail. Megan gave me a good discount on the replacement exhaust, but I won't be spending any money with them again. For my additional $300, I'll spend the money in the US instead of China (where the Megan piece is fabricated).
