I'm being seduced by Kroger
It costs more and doesn't lower the cost of my fuel, helping offset the upgrade cost.
The way I look at it is that it's about $1k for my to switch. And assuming an average price spread between 93 and E85 of 50 cents/gallon, and a mpg difference of 2mpg on my day to day commute (I'm using what I get vs. what Chris@Cobb gets for this number, NOT tnt1106 or 666 EVO's mpg figures
), I'd recoup the cost of upgrading in three years AND I'd get the power difference.

yeah this is true, the only thing that scares me about e85 is running out of gas and not being able to find a close one.
isnt e85 made from corn and ethanol? i thought it was more enviro-friendly?

OK - as I stated in our G-chat.
Ethanol is FAR superior to gas. You have to research on your own, and not pay attention to the Media crap about it. Ok YES making Ethanol from corn is harmful to the environment, it is not very efficient and the ratio of energy to produce VS energy outputted/ available is worse than gas. HOWEVER, if you want to be picky, add ALL the energy to drill and transport the crap over here from the middle east, and then add ALLLLLLL the energy consumed and death related to the numorous WARS over oil. Ethanol starts looking really really good.
Also back to corn, majority of the corn currently used to produce ethanol in the USA comes from corn that is not even high enough grade for animal feed, it is made from the rejected corn. That is why corn prices, and agricultural prices in the USA have not increased by huge margins. It is using already produced corn for the most part.
Instead of shaming the product, you should be shaming the media, US government, and frankly the US people for not pushing harder to figure out more efficient methods to produce the stuff. You have to keep in mind, relatively speaking Ethanol as a fuel is very new compared to GAS, so do you think Gas was as efficient to produce when we first started using it? NO of course not.
There are methods out there, the algae method, that can produce Ethanol with only solar power and produce more Oxygen/per plant mass than corn, and produce more Ethanol per plant mass than corn..... more to come, I have a meeting!

Somehow I knew you'd be the one to say you like being FILLED UP everywhere :P
but definatly when im just dicking around town, just gas would be awesome
FYI since I had been considering this option a lot man, if you get the U-R fuel pump kit...redo all the lines because the E85 pretty much ate right through them over time. you could probably get away with 850's on E85 for the stock turbo but would need 1000cc+ for anything larger even if it was just a FP Red or something similar sized.
I would think that meth would have been cheaper still, my buddy goes through about 2 gallons a month @ $5 a gallon on his 40-88 setup and you don't have to worry about meth eating your fuel lines just have to worry if it's going to spray when it should or not
The alt map thing is a huge PITA still but hopefully Tephra is working on it because more and more people are needing race gas/e85 tunes/ or meth tunes on X's now

I'm getting the HB speed fuel pump kit, so it should be better. I also got 1000cc injectors. Headroom is good
Meth can't be cheaper....
Meth: $1000 for the kit (not sure if install and tune is included) + meth + you're still buying $$ 93.
E85: $1000 for the parts + install + retune + $0.50-0.90/gallon cheaper fuel than 93.
Over the long term, E85 is cheaper, although it is not as convenient for sure.

even-though e85 is a little cheaper, your gas mileage is sacrificed some what significantly, so doesn't that kind of even out on that particular aspect of the price things?
But I would have to agree, if e85 was as commercially available as 93 octane is, there is no doubt in my mind that everyone would be going that route, as opposed to meth

Well, since neither you nor I are running E85, there's no telling what the net mpg difference will be.
Chris@Cobb in his X MR is getting 19 around town. If I get that, then I'm within 1-2 mpg of what I get now.
According to this: http://e85prices.com/milesperdollar.htm
With these values:
E85 price: $1.79, 19mpg
93 price: $2.59, 22mpg
miles/year: 15000 (and actually I am currently going 18000/yr)
yields:
E85 cost per mile: $0.094
E85 miles per dollar: 10.615
Gas cost per mile: $0.118
Gas miles per dollar: 8.494
Cost per year, fueled with E85: $1,413
Cost per year, fueled with gas: $1,765
$352/year = 3 year ROI
Gasoline not imported by fueling with E85 (per year): 563 gals
Reduction in green house gases with E85 (per year): 5,630 lbs
Even if I drop it to 17mpg with E85, the yearly cost goes to:
E85: $1579
93: $1765
$186/year
So a slower return, but you also get more hp and torque

It's only $1,000 for meth if you get the HFS-6...the AEM kit is around $350. I'm sure you will like the E85 regardless. I need to check the HB Speed kit info because I'm unfamiliar with it. I'll be looking forward to your dyno after the E-85 tune
