I hate E85. Seriously have problems with it from an ecological perspective.

I live like a mile from a Kroger that carries it, I'd love some cheap power, and it can't hurt that it costs less than 93.


From reading and talking to Denver I'd need a fuel pump, injectors (a vendor on here has a great deal going on 1000cc's now), a fuel pickup line in the tank and a retune.


So... Do eeet! or stick to your guns regarding Ethanol and the environment?

 

If I could have voted twice I'd also put that you suck because we don't have E85 up here in DNO. After seeing Chris's MR at Cobb, E85 is looking mighty fine.

If you can get map switching, definitely do it! If your feelings are so strong about the E85, get a race and pump gas tune.

 

race gas @ $8.50/gal is simply a non starter and honestly won't give as much power as E85....

 

OK - as I stated in our G-chat.

Ethanol is FAR superior to gas. You have to research on your own, and not pay attention to the Media crap about it. Ok YES making Ethanol from corn is harmful to the environment, it is not very efficient and the ratio of energy to produce VS energy outputted/ available is worse than gas. HOWEVER, if you want to be picky, add ALL the energy to drill and transport the crap over here from the middle east, and then add ALLLLLLL the energy consumed and death related to the numorous WARS over oil. Ethanol starts looking really really good.

Also back to corn, majority of the corn currently used to produce ethanol in the USA comes from corn that is not even high enough grade for animal feed, it is made from the rejected corn. That is why corn prices, and agricultural prices in the USA have not increased by huge margins. It is using already produced corn for the most part.

Instead of shaming the product, you should be shaming the media, US government, and frankly the US people for not pushing harder to figure out more efficient methods to produce the stuff. You have to keep in mind, relatively speaking Ethanol as a fuel is very new compared to GAS, so do you think Gas was as efficient to produce when we first started using it? NO of course not.

There are methods out there, the algae method, that can produce Ethanol with only solar power and produce more Oxygen/per plant mass than corn, and produce more Ethanol per plant mass than corn..... more to come, I have a meeting!

 

I would've jumped on E85 already but...it's my only car for DD now since I had to give the lease car back in July. If I had a second car for everyday use, I'd get E85 on the X no questions. However, it's not readily available with the crappy mpg you get on this car already.

If you got a second car, I don't see why not. Or if you simply drive around where E85 is available.

Moar E85. I will run that shiz on my ar eventually. Gotta have my knock resistant corn gas.

 

without map switching or a laptop with you it is a very hard sell. even with a bunch of krogers around here, i promise you'll have to go out of your way to get e85. with that said, E85 owns gas/meth/racegas for power, reliability and cost.

 

Denver is right about the corn used to make Ethonal. It is the waste corn that is not for consumption. As far as effecting prices. It has raised the prices of other vegetables. Fields in La that used to grow cotton, potatoes and beans have been converted over to corn.

I'm all for it and my family is heavily invested in it. In-laws are lobbyists for the National Corn Growers of America. E15 may become the norm at the pumps.

Oh and a side note check out the thread that Bryan@GST posted pics in. The tops of the pistons and the combustion chambers are CLEAN.

 

I'm going to support Denver, I'm not seeing any moral downside, I just can't believe the energy investment for corn is any greater than that for oil. Specially now that we so reliant on foreign suppliers.
In my view anyone who runs on ethanol is taking a sacrifice of convenience to support renewable energy, likely greener energy.

but the ultimate green plus power density would be to run on hydrogen!

 

No map switching on the X yet, but I have a laptop in my glove box at all times for evoscan when I'm at the track... (Andrew used it at ECR to log his car I think.. or he was trying to). I also have the pieces to build a carputer that would be permanently mounted for autocross gps logging as well as evoscan logging/display in my dash.
