ouch 9hours. I don't mind a drive up to Dallas again (drove from houston for MOD), but the install time haha. idk what i would do for 9hours while I wait!

just wondering - the color swap on the AEM gauges - you say it's a factory swap. Are you saying you can order a new board from AEM that has a different color for the display?

I opened up my gauges yesterday to look if I could just swap the LED counters myself (electronics major here), but they look machine installed and not easily removed. My only guess is that you ordered a complete board replacement from AEM?

I don't remember what Acree told me so this could be wrong. The part that needs to change is the 7 segment display. I think in order to change it, you have to destroy the original (unless you're super awesome careful). Then it's just a matter of finding the same display in the color you want and soldering it back on.

yeah 7 segment display, that's the name. it's a pretty universal electronic piece, but the precision level that it's attached to board is so high I can't imagine soldering that...or even taking it off without destroying the board

props to Acree...would love to hear his input

The board the seven segment displays are installed on is not machine installed. It is simply a 12 or 14 connector that plugs into the board under it. You simply have to be very careful when removing the top board not to destroy it. The seven segment displays are actually very difficult to find and cost $10 a piece plus shipping. The parts cost alone for the conversion is ~$38 per gauge. And yes, there is very precision level soldering involved. I use tweezers and a host of other SMD tools.

Hey Acree. Found out today that none of my instrument lights work on my yellow car. I'll probably be wanting you to replace the lights with some better-than-factory option.

None on your lights working is a systematic issue involving faulty wiring or a blown fuse. Replacing lights on an Evo IX is far more difficult than replacing lights on an Evo X.

I think Todd was talking about his Camaro as he drives a Black Evo 9.

Interesting. I think tackling either one of those projects would be very doable.

What? Not up to the challenge? Just kidding. Kevin did mention something about this being a common problem. I just didn't know if there were any options for aftermarket/better lights.
