Protecting the new Evo

I just got a new MR and want to do protection first thing.

Who do you guys recommend for tint? That last place I used for the GSR did my girlfriends car as well and screwed her over so I won't be returning. I live in Bedford and don't want to drive all the way across town unless it's worth it!

What about clear bra stuff? I want to protect the front end, my mirrors and my rocker panels but not sure who to take it to.

Also I want weather mats...Do you recommend a certain brand? anyone have pics of theirs?

Thanks for the tips!

Rubber all-weather mats are pointless here, I used to use them in Minnesota but there is no need in Texas; just vacuum your stock carpet mats weekly and they'll stay looking nice for a long time. If you're set on rubber though, Mitsu offers so nice OEM ones and Weathertech's are also nice.

VentureShield is the only brand I'd use for clear bra, it's thinner, clearer, and stronger than 3M, plus includes a lifetime warranty against yellowing, hazing, cracking, etc. Trade Secret in Plano was able to replace that on my IX (originally installed in MN, but the car got hit and it needed replacement).

Search about the tint, I know there's been a few discussions on that already in NTEC.

Here's a good place to start: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/no...r-evo-dfw.html

holy cow Trade Secret was 1000 for the clear bra stuff. That's going to have to wait a bit. Thanks for the info though! Gonna look for the tint threads and get that done soon

If you do get tint make sure to get the moleskin installed and/or get a high quality scratch resistant tint. The Evo is the ONLY car I have ever owned that scratches the **** out of the tint. My wife and I have the same tint on our cars and mine looks like hot **** and she rolls her window down way more than I do. I didn't get moleskin because I didn't think a $40k car wouldn't come with it already, I found out after the fact.

I could not convince myself to do the clear bra stuff. The problem is it usually doesn't overlap the hood edge and fender edge and that is where I get all of my chips at. Plus on a dark car you have to be careful not to get wax under the edges, I hate the stock bra on the rear doors because of that.

Thanks for the info, my GSR didn't scratch but I hardly rolled down the windows either. I'll look into it!

What does the wax under the bra do? Sorry new to that stuff

Ugly build-up. When I fully detailed my IX I'd run along the edges of the clear-bra with a Q-Tip.

On dark cars it looks terrible and doesn't show up sometimes for a few weeks then it is outlined white.

I stopped using wax altogether, I haven't found anything that doesn't eventually leave a residue other than Tech Shine.

I use this exclusively now. It literally takes 5 minutes to do the entire car, safe on all plastics and NEVER leaves a residue. People always ask what I wax my car with and when I say "I don't" they just stutter. It is so easy to use you can do it after every car wash, it also prevents water spotting. That being said, I still put a base wax on every 18 months or so and use this to keep it up.

Im not aware that you did really like it.....Wax maybe once or twice a year then this(techShine) in between. The paint is slippery wet. Sometimes my car is freaking dirty no wash for 4months then I just wash it and the techshine is still there. Really good to maintain your paint.

Wow I used it since 2009. Please pardon with my crappy hands and videos.

I was working a deal with the owner to become a local dealer, I sent you a PM about it. He wanted too much initial investment for my liking. I just didn't go online and cream all over about it. Detailing products are like talking about politics and/or religion, never good to argue about it. You are the one that gave me my first fix, ever since then that is all I have used.
