Autocross

Hello,

I had my evo for yr and next yr i like to enjoy my evo more than just daily driving. I like high whp and drag racing stuff but after reading many threads about autocross, i'm slowly think maybe car isn't all about go fast... I bought the car with nice mods, to gain more power it is going to be either E85 or upgrade turbo. But before i go for more power, i really feel like i need to try this autocross.

I see autocross schedule and looks like most of events on sunday. Am i right? And i know i can't do anything untill this yr but when usually autocross events starts?
And if you know any link about rules, will you please share? ( sorry can't find info thru my phone)

Thanks

Some are on Sundays, some are on Saturdays. We're lucky here in DFW with all of the clubs: NTAXS, Equipe Rapide, PCA, BMW, SCCA. You're bound to find one on your free weekend day.

I would encourage you join. Warning, it's more addictive than crack. Plus it finally justifies all the money you put into your car.

NTAXS:

Equipe Rapide:

BMW CCA Lonestar Chapter:

Porsche Club of America Maverick Region:

I hope to see you out there next season. FYI, your best investment will be tires.

you can always check out the calendar @ www.dfwautocross.com

The season's over, so you'll need to wait until January.

I also recommend some HPDEs. More expensive than autocross, but you'll get a LOT more track time.

There's a cheap track day coming up @ Eagle's Canyon (toy run) and there are a lot with the PCA, BMWCCA, TheDriversEdge and Apex. Those will REALLY change your ability to drive your car.... and they're more addicting than crack (autocross is boring since you stand around so much of the time you're there vs. racing).

I have no idea what's near Arkansas. My first guess would be Hallett which is outside of Tulsa.

Eagle's Canyon is outside of Denton... although google could have told you that.

Autox is a lot of fun. It will teach you great driving skills you can use on and off the parking lot. It also really lets you get a feel for what the Evo can do when driven like a maniac. It's one of the few times you can really go out and drive the car like you want to in a big safe parking lot with a bunch of guys sharing the same goal, have fun and drive your car like a crazy person.

Word is dead on, I'd suggest NTAXS for your outing. They are a great laid back group with great instructors. They will get you off on the right foot for sure. Just remember it's all about having fun. If you mess up, hit cones, miss a gate, spin out, it's all just for fun.

Can't wait to see you out there next season!!! Jeremy Ault and Kent usually make it to all the NTAXS events and Jeremy is a great teacher, he's the one who got me started or should I say was the gate way drug to my autox and racing addiction LOL.

SCCA classes will go for SCCA and ER (STU, SM, etc) but with groups like BMW and NTAXS they go off your engine size so we are in class 2 due to being a 2.0l turbo. You will be in the same group as evo's, sti's, 350z's and cars like that.

You can have all the mods you want with those groups.

The others you really have to look at all the mods you have. You may be running SM with SCCA or ER so you would be up against some fast cars on r-comps. But they do have novice classes so until you get a few events under your belt you can run novice class and you don't have to worry about it as much.

The reason I like NTAXS and BMW is because you get 8 total runs vs ER which is 6 runs, and SCCA which is 4 usually.

Get serious and you can win tires and cash! This was a great year for me in autocross.

Thanks to Kevin and everyone at Evolution Dynamics for making the car fast and reliable.

Thanks to Discount Tire and Don Herring Mitsubishi for the contingency prizes..
