access port

Hello everybody.
I recently bought an evo X with a cobb set up witch is hard pipes, intake, axhaust, but it did not have the access port my question is should I buy the access port and get it re-tune or should I just get gauges because it has no gauges or should I invest my money on gauges and still get it re-tuned? If I invest on access port what the benefit will be?

Don't bother with gauges. Did you buy from a dealership or private party? Since the car already has the Cobb setup, you should swing by Cobb to see if the previous owner flashed it with a Cobb OTS map (or had it tuned) and just didn't give you the AccessPort.

The AccessPort is used for flashing, tuning, and logging your car, plus can be used as a gauge to monitor various parameters (boost, knock, etc.).

yes I actually went by a month ago and they told me that they cannot give me any information about the previous owner but they told me that it had acces port and it was tuned with them but because I dont have the access port they dont know if by taking it the previuos owner messed up the tune. And yes I bought it at a dealer

Drop by the dealer and see if they can go back to the previous owner and inquire about the AccessPort. They might still have it, and if the car is currently tuned, the AP isn't worth squat (costs $300 to have it unmarried, I believe). You might have to buy it off him, but it's still better than forking out for having to get retuned.

I believe you were the white X I was talking to yesterday for a little bit while stopped at a red light?

If so, welcome to the boards! Lots of members here with lots of knowledge.

Side note: the quad Cobb exhaust sounds real nice. Is it just the catback or full exhaust? It's not that loud if it's a full, which is something I've been looking for (quite full TBE). ETS quiet version is obviously on the top of my list, but I have not heard that exhaust in person.

The ETS "Quiet" is going to sound similar to the Cobb since they share the same general muffler shape and design. It comes down to which tips you want; quad or oval (Cobb) or round (ETS).

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the quad tips, but good to know that they sound similar. Guess ETS is what I'll be going with when the time comes.

You can get oval tips from Cobb too, both are currently in production.

The peace of mind of knowing exactly how your car is tuned would be the biggest thing, and if the car is currently not tuned, or just on an OTS map, you will pick up power.

True... cobb people said it is tuned because they have records of my car being tuned but they dont know for sure if the tune is good still after the previous owner taking off the AP. But I will try to get in touch with the previous owner if not ill have to spend some money on a new one..

Granted, it would be nice to have the ap, but its not necessary until he mods the car further, right?
Am i correct here. . .The previous owner can't screw up the tune, but w/out it, you'd have no way to know what map you're on.

Without it he has no way of knowing which map its on, or if the previous owner flashed it back to stock so he could sell the AP.
