I'd be up for a site, and for having the site URL in the decal. But I don't exactly have tons o' extra cash (and before any sarcastic comments about my signature come up, that money is going towards bills.)

 

Don't worry about that right now. I'm not into club fees and all that stuff. One of us will step up to the plate and donate name domain registration. I just checked godaddy.com and it like $7 a year. Not a big deal. Hosting will be another thing but we'll figure that out when it comes to that. BTW, ohiolancers.com is available but NOLC.com is not.

 

I have registered the domain:

www.nolc.org

it will be redirected to the NOLC home thread

it should propogate to the DNS server in 24-48 hours.

Let me put on my geek propeller hat...

When you type in a name into your browser "www.nolc.org" the browser asks the "internet top level domain name servers (DNS)" the question - Who is handling the domain "www.nolc.org" and what is the IP address of the web server?

Well, the DNS servers handle *all* the domains of the internet and they have a corresponding "authoritative server" that they direct the request to. They are like the telephone directory service. I want the phone number for Deetz... (Dietz is like the domain, and the phone# is like the IP address)

There are certain times that all the DNS server sync with new names and changes. It takes some time, and then all should be kosher. I bought the domain and a redirector to mask our domain and redirect it to evom. We might want to canvas the moderators to sticky an offical NOLC home thread, and only do announcements... And we can change where the domain gets redirected at any time - later when we have our own site...

We'll have to decide how to set up the site, what we want, etc. Everything sounds good, though.

 

Yeah, I have all my domains through Network Solutions (used to be the only registrar on Earth) and they can do everything (for a price). They are expensive, but you get what you pay for - and for a business, you need to alway be on-line.

I just stepped up because there was an immediate need (decals/logo) and the guy that made the suggestion (me) should take responsibility to facilitate. But, as you can see - I've done this a bunch of times before (for at least 3 organizations), but don't have the time to dedicate to doing the full deal again. I am, though, here to give you guys all I can (I think we all are)

Right now, lets just see how it goes, and the need will dictate the path we take - all offers though (thanks on behalf of the club at large) are well appreciated. You guys are cool, and enthused about the energy that the organization seems to have.

If and when it comes to it, if we are goign to design our own site I'm down for doing that. I just so happen to be studying graphic design...

 

Deetz, we can use my webspace as the temp host until we find something more permanent. That way we can at least upload webpage information and have something valid for visitors to our club site.

Let me know and I can send you host information...that way at least I can load up the logo and start a basic homepage.

Reason I say temp because I don't have an over-abundance of webspace but enough for webpages and images....

 

Planning on picking up decals this Thursday or early Friday morning before the show, so I might be unable to caravan down to Norwalk with you guys! I will call someone, or look for you guys when the gates open if that happens.
