Moving to the Northeast....winter questions
Moving to the Northeast....winter questions
Hey guys:
Theres a big chance that i will move to either Ohio or Boston so i have a few questions.
I am taking my EVO with me and i live in San Juan, PR. The car is US Spec (duh!) but is there some thing "special" that i need to do to get it ready for winters?....like fluids for example....or something to protect it from the salt/snow?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but thanks in advance

im in boston.. id get snow tires and if you really wanted to get cheap wheels. i am using the stock wheels as winter beaters and bought new wheels for the spring.. use a winter windshield washer fluid, um and as far as proteting it goes, maybe that 3m film to protect the paint and wash her often. we mostly use sand here not salt so it wont eat your car, but it gets dirty the second you leave the house. whatever you do do not drive on the advans, and take it easy when you first get here driving on ice and snow is totally different
I dont drive an evo. only an OZ but i bought myself some Toyo Observe snow tires and the difference from all seasons is amazing....i can only imagine how well an evo would deal with snow with them...Definaly get snows on cheap rims or the stock ones if you are upgrading the rims...other than that winter windshield washer fluid....also i dunno about oil with a turbo yet but someone should be able to recommend a good oil for the cold weather. ALWAYS warm the car up good and thats about it
definately take it slow till you get the hang of it...dont wanna bust up the evo or yourself.

this just makes me imagine what driving an evo with snow tires would like...i mean my car literally eats snow with em, i never would have imagined an evo could only be better.
OH yea and in the winter you wanna try to get the narrowest snow tires that can fit on your rims instead of the widest. Its all about the weight, in the snow believe it or not a smaller contact patch would mean more weight on a smaller area. The rest of the year you can go as wide as you want but in the snow you want as much weight in the smallest area for traction

5w30 Oil will help for an easier start in cold weather as well. Make sure you have a good scraper!! lol have fun P.s. your gonn aget used to having a wall of snow build up on your wing and completely block your view...then you'll have geeettt ouuuttt and then take alll the snow offf Its a pain lol
Don't forget to flush the IC spray reservoir with washer fluid - the tank will crack if it freezes with plain water in it.
If you get dedicated snows, get them a bit skinnier than the stock tires. Skinnier is better in snow. My 235 snows float way too much in snow driving.
Remember - AWD helps you GO, but it doesn't help you STOP.
