Being it that I'm 20 and apparently fall into that demographic of "punk kids" I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there are people that were brought up what I like to think is "right" and do respect other people. I, for one, was helped out a great deal by my father with this car and really everything else in my life. But I respect him for helping me get there. I love seeing anyone with a nice car. What pisses me off is when people make it into a battle on the highway or streets.
The best thing bappened to me the other day. I was on the highway and a kid in a 240 rolled up next to me with his window down, smiled, gave me a thumbs up and said looks good. I said you too, and he was gone. Well I caught up with him again a while later and we looked at each other, looked ahead, he konked 3 times and we took off. I beat him(not by much actually, he had the thing done nice) and when he caught up to me after, he again smiled and gave me a thumb up.
To me thats what its about. You appreciate other peoples love for cars and have fun with it. I wasn't out to beat him to prove anything, just to get the rush of racing. I can't stand when *******s in hondas or bmws drive up next to me and shoot me a look like i just ****ed their mother then slug away like they got sumthin. Or my personal favorite is the mustangs, camaros, and apparently new gtos(took a guy with my car full, him alone in his new gto) shooting dirty looks to each other.
I dont like mini coopers, but I dont make a point to shoot the people driving them dirty looks as I pass them. I think it all just comes down to the fact that most people into performance cars(especially the younger enthusiasts around my age) have too much of a desire to be the best. Everyone wants to be faster than the other guy and when they're not it hurts them. I've accepted that theres always a bigger fish so if I get beat it doesn't bother me. I believe thats why most younger kids(not to mention New Englanders, were generally illtempered, I blame the weather) have that kind of attitude. They just haven't growen out of the competition phase of being an enthusiast. Once they realise they can't win that battle, hopefully sooner than later, they'll come around.
I dont mean to sound preachy, though i'm sure I did, but I completely feel you on this topic. btw I drive a black 05 with a carbon hood and splitter. If you see me around(i work in the exeter area) you can expect a friendly wave or honk.
