I have a toshiba which gets a lot of use. its been on many tuning trips and has never let me down. the battery life is great especially considering the large screen. wait for tosibato have a sale and you can get a great deal. they even have an outlet store online for some bargains.

the one downside is that cstom configs take a while however from what you descrbed I think you can find something off the shelf the will make you happy.

But I aggree that the macs are a bit over prices, to me. And one of the places I have looked in the past 10 minutes and in the past was best buy, they have some good stuff for a under a grand. Just not sure what I should do with my hard drive. It's 7 months old with about 80-90 gigs of stuff on it that I don't want to lose.

and again, I'm kind of intimidated my Vista, I have XP and I like it...I don't know if I want to go to vista.

I have had 3 toshiba laptops. The newest one I got senior year of HIGH SCHOOL, so almost 7 years ago. It still works incredibly well, even after one of my roommates spilled coffee on it and i sent it to toshiba who fixed it for free. Smelled like hazelnut for 6 months. The battery is shot but that is mainly because i never exercised it.

i noticed that my battery on my past two lap tops where pretty useless after way less than a year. by exercise it to you mean let it run on the battery and then recharge it regularly? I do have a bad habbit of just leaving it plugged in.

I'm going to look for some Toshibias. See what I can find. I was also thinking about how some laptops come with dual hard drives, maybe I could put my 160 in a 2nd hard drive slot. A thought, don't know if it's logical.

from what i have been learning about Li-on it likes to be drained to 20% of capacity and recharged to 80% of capacity. Anything more or less will ruin the life of the battery which i can personally attest to on devices i have used.

talk about a pain having to get it down to 20 then unplug again at 80. I use my laptop like a portable regualar computer. Lol.

Oh well, we will see what happens this go round.

most batteries have a chip that regulates charge so when it says it is fully charges it is only at 80% and shuts off at 20%. Like i said, MOST batteries, which i refuse to include any phone battery since i know i cant get those to last more than 8 months.
