sweet link turcos
EDIT: so obviously running larger diameter wheel/tires affects the speedo... does it affect the odometer too?

you effectively change your final drive when you change the circumference of the wheels- smaller wheels = better acceleration and lower top speed (higher final drive) and larger wheels = slower acceleration and higher top speed (lower final drive)
if you go more than 3% you are technically supposed to get your speed reclibrated. that being said, there is a range of tire widths that will work on any wheel. just because they recommend a 235 doesn't mean you have to run a 235. use the calculator that turco posted and see what works best.
also, be aware that different tire manufacturers run wider or narrower for the same size. go figure....for example, azenis run on the wider side, so a 255 is actually wider than a 255 kumho mx.
confused yet?

so it does affect the odometer too? i understand the final drive difference. i just wasnt sure if the odometer ran off the same sensor as the speedo. i would presume that it does, but then again you would hope that the odometer woudl still be correct regaurdless of the rolling diameter. how hard is it to recalibrate the speed sensor?

Yes the odometer reads from the speedo sensor so yes. Smaller wheels will cause more miles on the odometer and visa versa. The 255/40/17s or the 255/40/18s are both close enough to stock size so they are the best wider sizes to go with. I personally wouldnt go wider then 255 for street. Wider also is worse for gas mileage. So many factors.
hey paul, over in one of the AMS threads - there's an argument about Special Editions having the same turbo and ECU refinements as the 07s.
AMS seems to think the SE's dyno with a good amount more torque than regular IXs.
edit: AMS as in AMSTuning/Atlantic Motorsports - not THE AMS as in AutoMotoSports
