My wing has just started to fade, i need some help!

Hey guys,

Well i thought it wouldnt happen to me but my wing has a dime size fade on it, and it seems to be growing! i was wonder if any of you that are modded were able to replace them under warranty. Now i know being modded has nothing to do with the fade but knowing mitsu theyll try to blame the vibrations of the exhaust or something! If you did it get replaced can you list the dealership?

thanks!

Well they would have to blame some mod on creating extraneous sunlight on the clear coat. Since this was such a wide issue you shouldn't have an issue getting it replaced. I would being it to westboro and Al should take care of you. Good luck!

I got my modded evo wing replaced under warranty. You're going to be getting the non carbon fiber version if they do change it. They only offer the full painted wings now. I got the carbon fiber wing replaced with the same style 2 years ago....

yeah i heard they replace it with the IX wing...

If you wanted to keep your wing i dont think it would be TOO much to just have a just sand it down and re-clear the entire wing. Maybe $150? maybe less if you prep the wing yourself. You could even clear it yourself if you wanted to.

Last year it cost me $60 at my trusted body shop for tehm to reclear my spoiler.

Be careful Pierre, if they (Mitsu) replace it, you may get a IX style wing from what I have read in past posts. Some people were extremely upset. I love having the CF on the inside part of teh wing, which I believe all VIII's came with. Check with Bill and he should tell you if this is correct if a Mitsu dealer orders a new wing for warranty.

IMR-TIM- Yeah i think i just might have it re-cleared. Id like to have a wing that came STOCK on the car...not a wing that is from a different version evo, mitsu is straight crazy with their warranties, 60 bucks can you PM me the info?

Turco- thats the weird thing! up until i moved to boston (june of this yea) the car was always parked in the garage and even stored for the winter! So it was exposed to less sunlight then the normal evo!

Well that goes to show you how BAD the clear is. I can tell the car was garage because it has lasted this long without needing replacement.

Pierre- I will call them in a few, and PM you the details. It will be best for you to remove your wing for this. Just a heads up, if your car ends up in the same boat as mine, you may find rust under the spoiler mounting areas. I had to have my trunk repainted as well.

I left him a voicemail, he will get back to me after his 2 hour lunch

Not sure how much to do the trunk. He did that part for free , as I hooked him up with an extra 5% off a big parts order he submitted to me. One hand washes the other But his labor can get expensive, as he has the best guys working for him, and pays them very well.

If it is a dent that can be removed, my boy Brian does paintless dent removal. He is always looking for side work

Ok let me know what he says. Yeah the dent kinda cracked the paint around it so id rather paint it.....not your typical dent. Its tiny but it drives me insane.

I am in need of getting my 2nd wing re-cleared. I love how it starts small, and expands like cancer. I doubt you'll get it done for $60 unless 1). you know the shop very well. 2) It's bootleg work 3) you're getting other work done at the same time. A realistic estimate would be $100-150, which is not that bad.

I got mine done under warranty last spring at Westboro Mitsubishi in Norwood and they gave me a brand new Evo 8 wing. The wings only come in white and they send them out to be painted and it matches perfectly. I was approaching 35k miles at the time. I am almost at 60k now, so that's 25k miles on this new wing and it is still spotless. I wax my carbon fiber pieces every other month or so because I've dealt with the fading first hand.

Unless you really want to keep the 8 wing and are willing to pay to get it recleared, I would go to Mitsubishi. How many miles do you have?

After you get it fixed cover the cf part with clearbra. I did that to mine when i first bought the car and after 2+ years of sitting outside it still looks perfect. Cost me about $50.
