Question New Mass Inspection Regs???

So I just read in the Metro today that Mass is putting in new inspection rules starting OCTOBER 1!?!?!?!?! I don't t know if I've been under a rock, but i definitely thought I would have heard of this sooner.

Does anyone know any details, or if this is going to scr3w any of us over? The short article made it sound like a "more thorough" obdII scan, whatever that implies.

is it that OBDI cars dont need the emissions test anymore? They have been trying to eliminate the dynos in the shops for years. I believe they only have to pass safety. OBDI FTMFW

From the little i could find, it didn't mention any relaxing of the rules (but not impossible since almost no info is out there). I even tried the gov website, but of course it hasn't been updated since 2006.

Any shop owners or techs know wtf is going on with this?

Yeah, OBDI cars (and prior) only need to pass safety checks. no more sniffers.

There'll be no more emissions dyno testing, or 2-step idle...

so these "enhancements" are actually de-regulations?! This is awesome, for once gov't marketing ftw!

They switched over to OBDII in 1996, as mentioned. However, a lot of car companies with new models coming out in 1995 did the switch early. '95 2g DSM's all have OBDII ports, but they are still tested as OBDI's...basically the best of both worlds!
