Little help guys...

hey guys im buyin an evo from Connecticut and i live in jersey. The car has a 3" turbo back exhaust on it with a test pipe and he said the CEL is on. I am gonna need to get the car inspected so what is my best option? Should i look in the for sale threads for a stock cat-back and install that? Will that take the CEL light off and help me pass inspection? Any help is greatly appreciated

Their is a cel fix you can buy from any vendor on here to eliminate the light....however....Jersey has a visual inspection and if they look under the car and see no cat you are going to get a sweet fine.

What part of CT are you buying the car from??? Just curious.

NJ has a visual inspection and sniffer. No cat = no pass. Get a HFC, clear the code, get inspected - go back to test pipe.

Search mechanical O2 fix for a full time fix or the ECU flash code fix.

I will be doing the same thing. How much of a pain in the azz is it to swap the pipes?

Another question with a HFC what are the performance differences vs a test pipe?

I cant remember if there is a dB limit also.

Its a few bolts to swap it out. Check the FS for a used HFC or OE cat.

HFC will introduce some back pressure. More restriction, less power. How much - depends?

Is the car tuned YeaIbOOst? If not, wont matter anyway.

Honestly your car should pass emissions with no cat, I've done it before just make sure it is warmed up. Also, buy a spark plug anti-fowler for 5 dollars from autozone in add it to the 02 sensor after the cat, that will take care of your CE light..As far as visual inspection just ask the place before hand, most places in PA would not even dare put an evo on a lift to take the wheels off let alone look underneath of it..
