Must Read !!!
Lots of info in your post
1) The dealer did disclose the damage which they have to by law.
2) The manager gets into the picture and hell....maybe he does hate Evos?? Can't imagine why he would hate 04's any more than the 03's except of course that he has a couple he wants to move very badly, so he is telling you this it for his Evo inventory. Better get one while you can!
3)Although he wants to sell you a car he is also sending a warning shot over your head that if you buy one of these Evos, you better not trash the clutch because MMC isn't gonna cover it. Oh yeah almost forgot...No modding!!!, no!,no!,no!( someone needs to pull that guys toupe off)
4)Like many others on this forum, I was a WRX owner. My car was modded to stage 3 level, and I was having tranny problems due to the inherently weak 5spd transaxle cases. Many people have experienced these issues, and have had trouble with Subaru and the dealerships during warranty claims of these sorts.
5) Each and every automobile manufactured is engineered within tolerances of specific specifications. Exceed those specifications, and you may break something. There's not a car dealership out there that really "supports" modifications to your vehicle. If you have a decent relationship with a dealership you might stand a chance!
As far as the alternative cars go, you may want to ask about the recent recall for re-flashing the Sti's as the result of hot weather detonation. The question thats been rolling around in lots of peoples heads, is what is the impact to the original hp/tq numbers? They are changing engine operating parameters and have to be either lowering boost, increasing fuel, or retarding timing...none of which will result in improving hp/tq thats for sure.
Other than that, and the flexy wing and scoop thing, the Sti would be (and was) on my list of cars worth owning.
The Z is a cool car for sure, but unless you spend $4-6k for a Stillen SC kit you will be driving around knowing that the EVO's and Sti's will dominate. Power isn't everything though, and the 350Z is a nice package that really looks awesome to boot!
Just my .02....not meant as a flame....just feedback.

The det problems weer only in some car in california. I belive it was the fact that it was really hot and they didn't get the best gas. They might have got the best at the station but i have heard alot of gas stations down there "water" down thier gas to make more money. I would get the STI if I had the money.

the warranty issue is different for every dealership. I've read several posts here about dealers having no problems "fixing" a car that has been modded (even read of a dealer installing a complete RMR exhaust for a customer), and I've also read some people say that the warranty is shot if you adjust a single bolt. I believe the clutch is covered for 12,000 (don't quote me on that, but I think thats my my dealer said). It all comes down to how much of a dick the dealer wants to be.

piece of paper stating the 04 Evo will have AYC, a lighter body, and changed headlights/front grill?Maybe this post should be moved to the 04 Evo thread... interesting if this is the case though.

My car has about 9400 miles on it and I have had no problems to date. I have been running a Works 93 octane re-flash for the past 3k miles, and recently installed a Works Exhale rear muffler delete pipe.
I had an M2 kit w/Vf23 in my Wrx, and it was a fun car to own! You may be right about the luck of the draw re the tranny?
As far as the cars go any one of the three you have mentioned will be great cars. Go with the one that makes you smile the most.
Btw- If you do decide to get an Evo, find another dealership where the Manager isn't a hater of Evo's, and such a dousch-bag!
Good luck with your choice!
