WHICH SHOP to change a clutch ??
WHICH SHOP to change a clutch ??
i may need to change my Oem clutch soon (looking for an Exedy Twin, as it seems if i get anything else, the Evo gds will eat me alive).
anyway, do I have to take it to an "Evo-only Shop", or any trusted car shop would do ??
Now, of course common sense tells me, special Evo-Shop only, but labor costs there run $600, while my local shop (that takes care of sports cars), a shop that I have been taking all my cars for 'non-warranty' repairs to for 15years now (where they swear that they can change the Evo clutch with their eyes closed or my money back) would only charge $200 for labor (if i bring my own clutch, all my own fluids). they say in the 25y they been in business, they changed clutches on every possible vehicle short of a McLaren F1 (although amazingly enough, never an Evo), in fact they just did a Bmw M6 last week, and currently doing a new Z06 (where the owner burned the clutch after just 2k miles).
so there is quite a diff in cost, BUT the second concern for me is that my closest EvoShop is IveyTune (which is 1hour drive), so its a huge pain in the *ss, to say the least, to go there and leave the car there, then take a cab home for an hour. and same thing when Im picking up the car. while my local shop is 5min drive
Any ideas ? please explain...

Its really not rocket Science. If you trust the guys take it there. $200 is way too cheap for a clutch job in an EVO IMO though. 500 is more on par. If you really want to not have a worry in the world take it to IVEY
I've done well over 3 to 4 dozen clutches in Evos over the years (The overwhelming number of cars I work on are Evos). I could do it for you as well but, I'm 1 1/2 hours from NYC, so I may not be an option. Like Luke said though $200 is WAY cheap, too cheap but, if you trust them than go for it.
I drove 6 house to have Buschur do my clutch, did the clutch, stainless line, custom made a bullett test pipe and changed all drivetrain and brake fluids......and I was out of there in less than 5 hours....
Contact Jimmy at The Shop... good guy fair price and done fast. www.theshopct.com
and hour drive? thats nothing. i drive my car 2 1/2 hrs everytime i want work done esp. the clutch. peace of mind is priceless. 200 sounds crazy cheap. my vote, take it to a shop that has done dozens of evo clutches. evem if you trust your shop, it could take twice as long bc they have never actually done one before. go to ivey or the shop, hang out while they do it, maybe get some more parts, and jet home. done and done right.

For real though Adam has done tons of EVO clutches including mine. If you want no nonsense, 100% USDA Grade A work hook up with Adam
+1 for having it done over at Ivey's.. Peace of mind knowing he has done them 1000x.. the quote for 200.00 you got already shows they have no idea WTF they are doing.. Good luck!!
btw.. I am sure Sean can have you in and out same day if he schedules you to get there early enough.. let him know you dont want to travel the hr back and forth 2x..

It's a bit of a hike but No Limit motor sports. Vinny there is great has done a lot of evo clutches for my friends. Plus he has a real beast of an evo himself...
