PCD: 2013-2014 Till We Break It Edition
dek almost crashed hangout last few days with commute rant.
Give me the skinny on iRacing system requirements. I know what is says on the iRacing site, but those are minimums and I don't want to hal-@$$ anything when I can whole-@$$ it--I don't want to go crazy, but would like to support two or three monitors.
What do I need processor and video card wise?

AMD phenom quad core 3.4ghz chip
8gb memory
50gb SSD hard drive
Sapphire radeon 7770HD Vapor X (this is the key to the whole thing)
i spent in the $5-$600 range all said and done, and the graphics card i put in has no problem cranking very high frame rates AND has the ability to do triple screens when i ever get to that point.
processor wise you really don't need much since the game happens over the internet. GPU is where you should spend your $, especially if you are going to triples.
what is your budget?
you can get a set of 60hz 27" monitors for $189ea if you shop around for sales. 120hz will be a lot more and not really worth the price difference if you axe meh. <27" and the price starts coming down a lot. There is some new technology on the horizon that might make monitors a thing of the past, but it will probably be 6 months or more till its available to the common folk.
To start off get the G27 logitech. They go on sale @ amazon for $200 all the time.
You'll also need a stand for the monitors and rig for yourself, wheel, pedels, shifter. I like the obutto ozone ($350-$550) or if you have big $ the obutto r3volution is really nice. There are much cheaper options out there too like playseat and GT omega.

i wanted an rSeat but no one could confirm my fat *** would fit in it, so i got a playseat and its been just fine. the biggest thing bothering me lately is not having that "*** arm nerve" ability...my next upgrade is to add some form of bass shaker.
I have a Fanatec CSR Elite wheel and pedal set from XBOX/PS3 usage...and I have a few PCs sitting around the office that I can re-purpose and several spare 23" screens.... I guess I just need to make I have a box that has enough memory and a decent video card. Anyone using one big monitor/tv instead of multiple small screens?
I also have seats in the office already...
