E85 warning: East orange, nj

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who fills up e85 in east orange, NJ.

I recently filled up the car and noticed the AFRs were all funky. Anytime I gave it gas it would peg 10.0 on my AEM wideband.

Drained the fuel tank, tested the gas with STM's e85 test tube and its was basically STRAIGHT GASOLINE. Their tester only goes down to about 50% so if I had to guess it was probably about E15-E20.

There is some sort of e85 supply shortage. They were basically out of gas and the attendant said he didn't know when the tanker was coming.

A few stations up in NY were also out of gas according to a buddy of mine (Middletown and South Fields Valero).

I ended up filling up in Spring Valley, NY which tested out to around e90 @ 3.65/gal.

So if anyone uses that station please test the gas before filling up and monitor your afrs.

Picked up 5 gallons at the gas station at Newark airport....test read out it was about E-75 , attendant said they are still on winter blend. There must be a shortage because it was well over $4 a gallon more then 93 oct!!!.

AFR stands for air/fuel ratio I believe. It measures your exhaust gas to see if the mixture is correct. E85 is just corn juice fuel.

How does the E85 work in relation to normal 87? Or even 89? Isn't 89 in our engine's supposed to give us better performance an fuel economy?

If you want performance, go for 93. 87/89 is garbage. You need to be tuned for E85 to use it, and probably need larger fuel pump and injectors as well.

Price varies, fuel economy sucks from what I've heard. The only real perk is that it can make power pretty easily. Probably not enough to bother with it on a regular lancer though.
