Public Scale in New York Area

I'm doing some weight reduction on my car and curious to see the final results. Anyone know of a public scale in the new york/ct area?

Thanks!

Check nearby truck stops. If not you can go to a scrap yard, or quarry and ask nicely. It all depends who's in the scale house that day and how busy they are.

they will not, I suspect be very accurate. You need corner balancing scales. Contact any good local shop and just ask them if they have scales. EFi in Bethel CT does and they might be willing to weigh the car for a fee.

thanks for the suggestions! I noticed that certain Cat scales for trucks are calibrated on a regular schedule and found one in jersey that isn't far from NYC. I'm going to try that one out.

Thanks guys!

So I went to a Cat certified scale last night in jersey and with the back seat out and the tire/jack out of the trunk and 1/2 tank of gas my car weighs 3,440. I have a 2013 GSR with SSS package with MR BBS wheels (for summer) and ohlin road and track suspension. Other weight saving items would be the exhaust which is an ETS recirc downpipe and testpipe with a Cobb catback (pretty big muffler so i doubt that saves much weight).

I'd like to get it below 3,400 and was thinking that a small battery is worth about 25. Where could i get the last 15 or so? any other ideas on easy weight saving without deleting crash beams/airbags or radio/A/C?

You can do it without deleting crash beam, you just need to replace with JDM ones. You can also save by swapping to two piece rotors front and rear.

Knowing what they weigh to begin with would be helpful but how much you save is heavily dependant on what you replace them with.

It is worth pointing out though that rotors are a good target because it's not just normal weight reduction but a reduction in unsprung mass and rotating mass which has way more benefit than normal weight reduction.

Benefits of reducing unsprung mass: The suspension can plant the wheel assembly on the pavement faster and firmer because of the reduced potential energy of a lighter assembly. When it goes up it takes less energy to put it back down.

Benefits of reducing rotating mass: Basically the same deal but now we are spinning it instead of going up and down. Reduced weight makes it easier to spin the wheels meaning reduced drive train loss as measured at the pavement.

Not sure how accurate this is, but according to the MAP site for Girodisc two-piece rotors:

Front: "The Girodisc front rotors are approx 17.4lbs vs. 23.5lbs for the stock units."

Back: "The Girodisc rear rotors are approx 13.4lbs vs. 18.6lbs for the stock units."
