Im getting ready to move to N.Y. Do cops regularly check exhausts for noise compliance or 50 state legality? The reason I ask is cause I have a test pipe on my EVO and am wondering if should invest in a cat?

 

depends on where in NY. Where i live they really don't say that much. Maybe in the city they are a little stricter.

 

I live in NJ. Unless the car is heavily under suspicion, I haven't seen it. If the cop doesn't like you and feels it necessary to cite you for all of the violations of doing 2x the speed limit racing, you're screwed. Loud muffler tickets are common but rarely see cat violations.

 

cat violations are being cracked down "BIG TIME" in N. NJ and NYC..... get a High Flow cat... Problem solved... They do spot inspections all the time now.... and if you get caught it's a 5-10K Fine depending on the judge.

 

I live in NYC and to be honest with you, i've never experienced or seen any type of pulling over by cops for exhausts and such. But i guess if the cops have nothing better to do they f**k with you. They dont ask for 50 state legal stickers or anything like that.

 

I'v seen it first hand myself... they have the road blocked off and they pull random cars over and check them with a sniffer and also use the mirror... My cousin also told me that they are starting to tell his officers to check for it if the car looks like it has been modified. They now carry the mirrors for looking under cars if they want to check in there squad cars
