Mod-Friendly Dealership in Seattle Area
Mod-Friendly Dealership in Seattle Area
I've been visiting mitsu delaerships in the Seattle area today, talking to service managers so I can figure out where to get my MR serviced without being hasseled for after-market parts. It's amazing how some dealerships don't understand that we have a choice in where to take our money!
Case in point: I talked to Larry at Walker Renton Mitsubishi, and as soon as I mentioned after-market mods he literally closed up. Choice quote: "If you modify anything on the engine, exhaust, transmission, or lower the car you warranty is gone." Not only is that factually wrong, the way he said it was plain rude. Admittedly, I've been on vacation since before Xmas, so I haven't shaved and look somewhat scruffy, but I still own a $40k car and expect to be treated with some minimum of professional courtesy.
My second stop was Auburn Valley Mitsubishi, and there I also talked to the service manager (forgot his name), and my impression was much better. Of course he also said that if something fails due to an aftermarket part they won't cover it under warranty, but when I explicitly asked about "so if my transmission fails will you give me any problems because I have an aftermarket exhaust?" he said "they have nothing to do with each other, so why wouldn't it be covered under warranty?".
So - bottom line, you do have a choice where you spent your money, ask questions before you decide where to take your car. Does anybody have any other dealership recommendations in the state of WA?

I know what you mean - with mitsu doing so crappy financially, the three closest dealerships to me all closed down within 3 months of each other (Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland)

The place I bought my car from was Mountain Mitsu in Tacoma. The owner is a really cool guy and on his yellow "test drive" car he had put on a cat back, tinted windows, and was going to put some neon underneath. His plan was to have some of his younger sales people take it out on weekend nights to gatherings, marketing you know? Anyhow, he's pretty lax on the whole business of mods.
Case in point, when I traded in my WRX I told him I was taking the cat back and turbo timer out for resale. He asked me to leave them in. so it would help the resale. This guy knows his target market.

Walker (Renton) has THE worst service dept for Evo owners. They tried to void my warranty BEFORE they even diagnosed what was wrong with the car. They even send ppl out to Pacific Raceway just to write down your plates # and report you to MMA to void your warranty for racing.
nice to know voidhawk, i would like to find a dealer in washington that will focus a little on customer sevice rather than trying to shoot you down because of your mods before they know whats going on.
We bought our EVO VIII at Mountain Mitsu in Tacoma. Steve (owner) is cool. In fact, I am very satisfied with Glen (Sales Manager), John (our sales guy), and Casey (THE MAN in financing). They have really good service and I am very pleased that the ownership had changed to Mr. Steve Hiatt about 5-6 months ago. I would recommend them to anyone. But, you know, that's me and it is based on my rapport with them. 253-671-7100

Korum Mitsubishi's master technician Randy is a bad *** dude. Shawn's VIII went down and Randy not only reccomended but installed the ACT clutch with no void to the warranty. Very good guy who understands that an EVo was meant to be modded and its best to work with that and not against it.
i also bought my white mr from mountain mitsu and thy are very cool about mods. cant wait to actually see if they will back up what they say. and hopefully somebody else will modify there car before i do and take it on down to mountain mitsu and see.
Thank you all for the great info! I've got a couple recalls to take care of and have been real hesitant on were to take my baby. Since im in the north end its not easy for me to check out the few dealerships we have left. I only have a few noticable mods but still its enough for them to say something.
Went to Walker today for a fan controller recall and to look at the throwout bearing because I've been having a little trouble getting in to gear and there's been chatter. Man, am I glad I don't usually need service. First I talked to Larry on the 23rd of Dec and made the appt for today- I described my clutch problem and he said "yep. Probably the throw out bearing". I took the day off from work and called this morning to make sure we're still on- "what? We don't see you on the list. But come on in anyway, we're kinda slow" Phew- dodged a bullet there. But when I get there and they do the fan controller replacement, Larry tells me that I need a new clutch. $700 for labor and like $500 for parts. I just laughed at him and went to Popeye's around the corner. If I needed a new clutch, I think I'd be having problems like slippage, not chattering and difficulty changing gears.... but that's another thread.
