Talking Primitive Performance RallyCross Weekend

I spent last weekend in OR for a 3-day rally driving school / rallycross. It rained all night Fri and the first half of Sat, so the grass field for the excercises and rallcross was very dirty / slick. If you think the stock Advans are bad on snow, try them on mud - I don't think I was traveling nose forward for more than 5% of the time, but man what a blast! It was loads of fun .

I really didn't have the traction to get any high power to the ground, but in the mid range it was great. Tue 02/29 (next week) I'm heading out to Pacific Raceway for some afternoon laps - that should be a good proving ground for the high end .

I know I haven't been around a lot lately, feeling kind of bad about it - my work schedule is freakin' insane these days. I'm back to CA tomorrow for the rest of the week, one week at home, then back out to CO the week after. At least the car is kind of settled down in a "driveable state" now, so if I ever get my schedule to sync with the NWE event calendar, I'll show up for sure !

I'm glad to hear it went well, but you are definetly going to have to pressure wash the exhaust before I have to take it off

did you have any issues scraping/bottoming out? I met an older couple at autocross school weekend before last who said they'd be doing the Primitive school as well (red subie Legacy, IIRC) and the gent said I'd need to raise the car about 1/2" for rallycross .... but I don't think I'm lower than you are

Hey - what fun is owning a race car when all you ever do with it is driving down the street doing the speed limit ? I had no issues with ground clearance, since my MR is still stock height.

Getting it clean again wasn't too bad, we went through a "touchless" car wash right after the event, before the mud had time to get hard. It was one of those places where the car goes on a conveyor belt thing, but they have people with high pressure water guns to clean it. The guy at the car wash did a serious double-take when he saw us pulling in . I gave him an extra $10, and they took their time to thouroghly hose it down. Back home I took the matts out and stuffed them in the washing machine (woollite, gentle cycle), wiped down the door jambs, and it's all good again. Later this week I'll get an exterior detail, and it should be cleaner than it was before .

For the future I have to admit I probably won't do it again though. Even though it was great fun, I'm more of a track fan, and I will be taking the car in that direction (e.g. lowering it), so it won't really be suitable for the off-road stuff anymore (maybe with coilovers, need to think about that one). Also, you really need some dedicated wheels/tires for this stuff - something skinny with lots of tread on it.

Oh yeah - and thanks for lending me your tails Jason . Mine should be back any day now (according to EvoDave), so I'll be able to return yours this weekend!
