Center guage pod in center vents

Anyone ever create a guage pod that sits where the clock and center air vents are located? I took that part of the dash out this weekend and found that it should fit 4 60mm guages, and probably 5 52mm guages. I'm thinking about building a pod that will bolt right in and was just wondering if anyone else has done this or might be interested in one.

Shouldn't be too long now! Though the new seats set me back on the rest of the turbo parts. Shooting for late June on the turbo install.

Interesting idea - I looked at the space today and there certainly is a lot of room there. You could put a Defi link display or SAFC in the center and 2 gauges on each side. That would be pretty wicked...

Neat idea. I haven't heard of anybody attempting what you described. Let us know how it goes when you build it. It would definitely be original for the Evo.

It's gonna be a while before I can afford 4 more Defi guages, but I might be able to start work on the pod anyway. What kind of material do you think would look best?

I would think something that matches the interior paneling or something to that affect...painting it to match. Mess around with some paint mixes until you get the right color scheme. I'm more into things that look like it came with the car. Everything has to match

Heck maybe something in carbon fiber or making it then having it wrapped in carbon fiber.

Thats funny you bring that up, i have been working on a drawing of it that would even include the hazard light switch mounted on the underside of the gauge pod as well as a couple of vents on each side to so the AC would still be somewhat functional. I figure the AC blowing on the back ofthe gauges and then out the vent wouldnt hurt (or will it). My thoughts are that the gauge pod would stick out from the vented area and just on the underside of the pod would be the hazard switch, kind of like pressing up with your thumb to turn it on.

havent put alot of time into just mostly a few ideas on some drawings.

I'm going on the dash. How about stuffing a A/F digital meter in the clock spot ?

Strange to see this in here... Jeremy just finished his custom gauge pod today. It doesn't take out the vents at all because it sits above the heater controls. It would require a stereo relocation to the bottom of the dash. Here is the picture of it in our dash... he is thinking about making more and they do match the interior almost perfect!!
