Windshield Replacement Recommendation

Has anybody replaced their windshield in the Portland/Seattle area?

Unfortunately I heard something hit my windshield on my way home from work yesterday but I could not locate the chip. When I woke up in the morning after a cold night I noticed a 3" crack on the upper left of the windshield right above my head.

The object hit right at the corner so I couldn't see it last night. Anyways...

I'm going to replace it myself and wondering how much it would cost and do you have a recommendation on which shop to go to.

Thanks.

Your insurance doesn't cover it?

I think my oldsmobile would've cost about $300 from Speedy Autoglass in Tacoma.

I'm sure insurance would cover but I believe WA State you have to pay deductible. States like Florida made it law that vehicle owners do not have to pay deductible on windshield replacement.

Thanks for the feedback $200-$300 isn't bad at all.

Oh...that's interesting. I have a $250 deductible, and I didn't have to pay it when I got my windshield replaced. My insurance covered all of it. Maybe it was just my policy then....it covers 100% of the windshield replacements.

I just had my windshield replaced. You have to get the winshield from the dealer so it is a little pricey. Its around $400 just for the windshield + installation. Not a cheap windshield. I was going to pay for it myself but found out running it thrue insurance was cheaper. But I only have $100 deductiable.

My understanding is that the original Evo windshield is lighter then others. Thinner or something.

I'd wait until spring time to replace it, all kinds of nasty stuff on the roads in the winter that could easily crack it again.

I have not asked my insurance. I carry a pretty high deductible but something like this makes me wish I carried a lower one. Waiting for spring is an idea... so far it has spread to about 6 inches now.

I noticed that the factory windshield has a diamond star emblem on it. I wonder if the factory one is lighter. hmmm...

I'm not going to be driving the car from March-August so maybe I'll wait until summer and replace it w/ the factory one. I appreciate all the replies. Thanks.

Finally got it done @ Speedy A Glass here in Marysville. It was pretty cheap, cheaper than one new tire... Cost was $225.00 + Tax = $244.

Hook me up!

I just got off the phone with safelite they quoted me 416.95 plus tax! I called about 6 different places and this was the lowest $303.00 (Royal auto glass) Highest $585.90 (Economy Glass Inc.) I am in Maryland.

I would have went with insurance USAA, but they only do free windshield repair not replacement. My deductable is $500.

Yes, the factory windshield is thinner and lighter as well as all the other windows on Evo's. I saw an aftermarket windshield on an Evo once. I can't remember what it was, but something made me look at it closer to see if it was OEM and it wasn't.
