Anyone on the west side like to go driving late at night?
At random times late at night when the weather is nice I like to go driving around mountain roads. I don't drive all-out, but I take turns pretty fast. It's nice because there is hardly ever any traffic.
It's so frustrating to be behind cars on Germantown, Skyline, etc. Driving late at night you are pretty much safe from the slow MFers. The only bad thing is, animals love to jump out in front of you, and oncoming traffic that IS out there pretty much drives down the middle of the road. There is also the occasional "WTF??" Like last night on Germantown, some guy on the other side of the guardrail was screaming at me "F_U_C_K You!" with his middle finger in the air. My best guess is that he was walking on the side of the road, freaked out when he heard me downshift before the turn and then power out of it, so he jumped over there in the bushes...and then got pissed at me. Well, if you are out there buddy, F_U_C_K You Too! It's not my problem you were walking over Germantown at 1:30am and got spooked. I drive inside the lines at all times and I don't overdrive my headlights...and besides, being on that road at all EVER is taking a risk. So is life.
Then tonight there was some truck parked right on the apex of one of the 180 turns. There were 2 guys inside, and their hazards were on. I don't know what they were doing there but it was surprising. Because of these sorts of things I never drive at the limits on the street.
Anyone else do this, or is it just me? I used to meet up with some guys after work and they would sometimes want to go driving around 7:00-ish, but there isn't anywhere to drive with no traffic at that time. One time we ended up driving very fast on the freeway on the way to PIR. Not exactly a good idea considering the amount of police out, and how boring it is to go fast on the freeway anyway...unless it's going like around the turn from 26 W to 217 S, or to a lesser extent 26 E to 217 S. I'm more the type of person that drives near the speed limit but takes turns faster than normal. I definitely don't need more tickets!!!!!! Besides that, I got my fill of high-speed straight line driving on the Autobahns in Germany. With my little 323i BMW I would cruise at 220km/h for long periods of time.
So, anyone else do this? I'm normally half-expecting to see some people out doing what I'm doing, but I rarely do.
Also, there are sometimes the "Crazy SUV Drivers" that go way too fast and are all over the road, thinking they are doing some pretty good driving. Well, if you have to cross into the other lane to make a blind turn, you are just asking for trouble. Wish those people would just ****ing pull over instead of trying to prove something.

Ya I do when I am back home there are some really good roads in OR. My home town is about 20 miles out side of Eugene. I also have a great road that goes to Reedsport. Up and down the coast HWY 101 good drive.
I do, But I like driving out in the middle of nowhere. Last summer I used to head out around midnight on a day off up to Rainier. That is a lot of fun. I cant wait until the passes open again. Recently me and my girlfriend where going to sleep on our day off with no plans for the next day so I woke her up at 3:00 am and we left Seattle drove down I-5 to just past Eugene then cut over to the sand dunes then drove back to Seattle via 101. was about 850 miles.
When I lived in Portland I didn't have my evo but I enjoyed midnight runs up ...um, what is it?? Hwy 4 I think. Along the columbia river on the WA side to the bridge of the gods then back. That is a great drive late at night when there is no traffic

I don't know any of the cool roads around Portland/Vancouver cause I'm not from here. But I love to get out and just cruise around at night when there isn't much traffic. Music and the sound of a whirring turbo is often therapeutic.

*Edit* I use the word whir as an inside joke to some. To explain to the rest, a good female friend of mine dated a guy with a 94 Supra TT; it was pretty heavily modded. Her description of the sound of the turbo was WHIR. So ever since then, I've mostly said it to be a smartass. I typed it without thinkin about it. Oops.
